Let’s Dive into Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – OD Green, Right Hand 6004-27721-561
The Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – OD Green, Right Hand 6004-27721-561 is more than just a piece of gear; it’s a statement. Manufactured by Safariland, a name synonymous with law enforcement and military grade equipment, this holster promises secure weapon retention and rapid deployment. Its Self Locking System (SLS) immediately caught my attention, hinting at a balance of security and speed I was eager to explore.
I was looking for a holster that offered both superior retention and a quick, intuitive draw for my Sig Sauer P226R DAK with a weapon light. My previous holsters lacked the security I needed for dynamic training scenarios, and their draw strokes were often clunky. The promise of the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – OD Green, Right Hand 6004-27721-561’s SLS system and compatibility with a weapon light made it an immediate contender.
Unboxing the holster revealed a robust piece of kit. The OD Green SAFARILAMINATE construction felt incredibly durable, and the leg shroud assembly appeared ready for serious field use. Its weight was noticeable, lending a sense of quality and preparedness, but not excessive enough to be cumbersome.
I considered the Blackhawk! Serpa Level 3 Tactical Holster and the Galco Miami Classic II Shoulder Holster before settling on the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – OD Green, Right Hand 6004-27721-561. The Serpa’s retention system, while effective, had received mixed reviews regarding accidental discharges in high-stress situations. The Galco Shoulder Holster was fantastic for concealment, but wasn’t ideal for the open-carry tactical scenarios I had in mind.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. I was excited by the apparent quality and innovative SLS system, but also aware that practical performance would be the ultimate test. This holster looked like it could withstand the rigors of hard use, but only time, drills, and maybe a little mud would tell the whole story.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – OD Green, Right Hand 6004-27721-561 to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – OD Green, Right Hand 6004-27721-561 at my local shooting range and a force-on-force training course. The shooting range allowed me to get familiar with the draw stroke in a controlled environment, while the force-on-force course put the holster through its paces in a dynamic, high-stress scenario. Both environments presented distinct challenges, but the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – OD Green, Right Hand 6004-27721-561 performed admirably.
The weather conditions during the force-on-force course were far from ideal: light rain and plenty of mud. Despite the moisture and grit, the SLS hood rotated smoothly and the handgun remained securely in place. Even while running and taking cover, the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – OD Green, Right Hand 6004-27721-561 held my Sig Sauer P226R DAK securely.
The draw stroke initially required some practice. The SLS system needs a deliberate motion to disengage, but it quickly became second nature after a few repetitions. I experienced no issues, even with gloves on.
The only surprise was the snug fit initially. The holster needed a bit of breaking in to allow for smoother draws with my specific weapon light attached.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – OD Green, Right Hand 6004-27721-561 has proven to be exceptionally reliable. It has weathered countless range sessions, training exercises, and even a few unexpected downpours without skipping a beat. The holster continues to function smoothly, even with regular exposure to dirt, sweat, and general wear-and-tear.
The SAFARILAMINATE construction has held up remarkably well. There are a few minor scuffs and scratches, but no signs of structural damage or degradation. The stitching remains tight, and the leg straps haven’t stretched or frayed.
Maintenance is straightforward. I simply wipe down the holster with a damp cloth after each use and apply a bit of silicone lubricant to the SLS hood mechanism. There have been no issues with rust or corrosion.
Compared to other tactical holsters I’ve used in the past, the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – OD Green, Right Hand 6004-27721-561 stands out for its superior retention, durability, and overall build quality. It inspires confidence that it will perform reliably in any situation.
