Let’s Dive into C.A.M.P. Orbit Express KS Quickdraws – 6 Pack
The C.A.M.P. Orbit Express KS Quickdraws – 6 Pack is designed as an affordable and versatile option for climbers of all levels. Manufactured by C.A.M.P., these quickdraws feature lightweight Orbit Wire carabiners and a durable polyester dogbone, making them a solid choice for both sport and trad climbing. The inclusion of the Karstop Evo carabiner retainer is a thoughtful touch, preventing the rope-end biner from shifting during clipping. These quickdraws aim to strike a balance between weight, durability, and affordability.
After years of using heavier, bulkier quickdraws, I was looking for a lighter option to reduce weight on long multi-pitch climbs. The C.A.M.P. Orbit Express KS Quickdraws – 6 Pack seemed like a good fit, offering a lightweight design without sacrificing too much durability.
Unboxing the C.A.M.P. Orbit Express KS Quickdraws – 6 Pack, I was immediately impressed by the weight, or rather, lack thereof. The Orbit Wire carabiners felt substantial enough to inspire confidence, and the dogbones seemed well-stitched. The color scheme, a mix of grey, blue, and fuchsia, is certainly eye-catching.
Compared to my older Black Diamond Freewire quickdraws and Petzl Djinn Axess quickdraws, the Orbit Express quickdraws are noticeably lighter. I picked these over the others primarily for the weight savings and C.A.M.P.’s reputation for producing reliable climbing gear. The price point was also a significant factor.
My first impression was positive – these seemed like a great set of draws for everyday climbing, potentially even exceeding my expectations given the price. I was excited to get them on the rock.
Real-World Testing: Putting C.A.M.P. Orbit Express KS Quickdraws – 6 Pack to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the C.A.M.P. Orbit Express KS Quickdraws – 6 Pack at a local sport climbing crag in Kentucky’s Red River Gorge. The weather was dry and sunny, ideal conditions for climbing.
The quickdraws performed admirably in the dry conditions. Clipping the rope into the Orbit Wire carabiners was smooth and efficient, and the Karstop Evo retainer kept the rope-end biner oriented correctly. The 11 cm dogbone was a good length for the routes I was climbing, preventing excessive rope drag.
The light weight was immediately noticeable; I felt less fatigued on longer routes and appreciated the reduced weight on my harness. I did not experience any immediate issues.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the C.A.M.P. Orbit Express KS Quickdraws – 6 Pack have held up remarkably well. They’ve been used on everything from single-pitch sport routes to multi-pitch trad climbs in varying weather conditions.
The Orbit Wire carabiners show minimal wear and tear, and the gates still snap closed reliably. The dogbones have retained their shape and strength, showing no signs of fraying or abrasion. Maintaining them is simple – a quick rinse with water after a dusty day keeps them clean and functional.
Compared to some of my older quickdraws, which have developed stiff gates or worn dogbones, the C.A.M.P. Orbit Express KS Quickdraws – 6 Pack have definitely outperformed my expectations. Their durability and smooth operation have been impressive.
