First Thoughts on the Boyt Harness 0PP650003 Rectangular Pistol Rug Handgun Black Canvas 13″ x 7″
The Boyt Harness 0PP650003 Rectangular Pistol Rug Handgun Black Canvas 13″ x 7″ might seem like a simple accessory, but a quality pistol rug is essential for protecting your firearm during transport and storage. This offering from Boyt Harness promises a blend of classic design and practical functionality at an accessible price point.
My search for a reliable pistol rug stemmed from a recurring issue: I was tired of my handguns getting scratched and dinged while bouncing around in my range bag. I needed something compact, protective, and discreet, without breaking the bank. The Boyt Harness rug seemed to fit the bill.
Upon unboxing, the rugged waxed canvas exterior immediately caught my eye. The Boyt Harness rug felt solid and well-constructed, a welcome change from some of the flimsier options I’ve encountered. The non-compressible cotton batten padding offered a reassuring level of protection, and the flannel lining was a nice touch, promising to be gentle on my handgun’s finish.
Compared to similar pistol rugs, like the Allen Company Ruger Pistol Case or the Bulldog Cases Standard Pistol Rug, the Boyt Harness stood out due to its classic aesthetic and use of waxed canvas. While others often use nylon or synthetic materials, the Boyt Harness rug offered a more traditional and arguably more durable feel. At $22.99, it’s competitively priced, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious gun owners.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. The materials seemed quality, the construction appeared solid, and the size was perfect for my needs. I was eager to put it to the test and see how it held up to real-world use.

After several months of regular use, the Boyt Harness pistol rug has proven to be a reliable and durable accessory. It has accompanied me on numerous trips to the range, as well as a few hunting excursions where my handgun served as a backup.
The waxed canvas shell has held up remarkably well, showing minimal signs of wear and tear, even after being tossed around in my range bag and exposed to occasional rain.
