First Thoughts on the Boyt Harness 0PP650009 Rectangular Pistol Rug Handgun OD Green Canvas 13″ x 7″
In the world of firearms, secure and discreet storage is paramount. The Boyt Harness 0PP650009 Rectangular Pistol Rug Handgun OD Green Canvas 13″ x 7″ enters the arena as a budget-friendly option for protecting your handgun. With its OD Green canvas exterior and full-length zipper, it promises both functionality and a touch of classic styling.
As someone who has handled firearms for over a decade, I’ve seen my fair share of pistol cases – from rigid polymer behemoths to minimalist sleeves. My primary need was a simple, reliable way to transport my smaller handguns to and from the range without screaming “gun owner” to the world. The Boyt Harness offering piqued my interest because of its unassuming design and reputation for reasonable quality at an affordable price.
Upon receiving the Boyt Harness pistol rug, I was immediately struck by its lightweight construction. The canvas feels durable enough for its intended purpose, although it lacks the premium feel of waxed canvas or ballistic nylon found in higher-end cases. Compared to my hard-sided pistol cases, this rug offered a significant reduction in bulk, making it ideal for discreet carry inside a larger bag or backpack. It’s a far cry from the tactical look of some cases, which is precisely what I wanted. My first impression was cautiously optimistic; it seemed like a solid, no-frills option that could potentially meet my needs.
Real-World Testing: Putting Boyt Harness 0PP650009 Rectangular Pistol Rug Handgun OD Green Canvas 13″ x 7″ to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground for the Boyt Harness 0PP650009 Rectangular Pistol Rug Handgun OD Green Canvas 13″ x 7″ was the local shooting range. I used it to transport a compact 9mm pistol and a .22LR target pistol. The 13″ x 7″ exterior dimensions proved to be a good fit for both, with enough room to accommodate the firearms comfortably without excessive bulk.
The weather was dry and sunny, so I couldn’t test its water resistance immediately. However, the padded interior provided adequate protection from bumps and scratches during transport. The full-length zipper operated smoothly, allowing easy access to the handgun. No complaints after the first range trip; it served its basic function effectively.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Boyt Harness pistol rug has held up reasonably well. There are no signs of stitching coming undone, and the zipper continues to function smoothly. The canvas exterior shows some minor dirt accumulation, but it’s easily wiped clean.
I’ve used it in a variety of conditions, including transporting my pistol in a backpack during light rain. While not waterproof, the canvas offered some level of water resistance, keeping the pistol dry enough for the short exposure. Compared to leaving the pistol unprotected in my range bag, this rug provides a welcome peace of mind. It’s definitely outperformed my expectations, especially given its price point, although it doesn’t match the protection of dedicated hard cases.
