Let’s Talk About Z-man Elaztech Big TRD Stickbait Soft Bait
The Z-man Elaztech Big TRD Stickbait Soft Bait isn’t just another soft plastic; it’s a meticulously crafted lure from Z-man, designed to entice larger fish with its enticing profile and durable construction. This 4-inch stickbait promises to be a game-changer in finesse fishing, combining the proven TRD (The Real Deal) design with the added benefits of Z-man’s signature ElaZtech material.
My search for the perfect soft plastic stickbait that could withstand repeated strikes without tearing apart led me to the Big TRD. I was tired of constantly replacing baits after just a few fish, and I needed something that could hold up to the abuse of aggressive bass and toothy pickerel.
Upon opening the package, I was immediately impressed by the feel of the ElaZtech material. It’s incredibly soft and pliable, yet surprisingly tough. The Big TRD has a slightly larger profile than the standard Finesse TRD, which I believe will be more effective at attracting bigger bites in pressured waters.
I considered other stickbaits like the Yamamoto Senko and the Strike King Ocho, but the Big TRD’s durability and buoyancy ultimately won me over. The Senko, while effective, is notorious for tearing easily, and the Ocho lacks the buoyancy I need for certain presentations. My first impression was one of excitement. This bait seemed to address all my previous frustrations with soft plastics.
Real-World Testing: Putting Z-man Elaztech Big TRD Stickbait Soft Bait to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground for the Z-man Elaztech Big TRD Stickbait Soft Bait was a local lake known for its clear water and abundant largemouth bass. I primarily fished it on a Power Finesse ShroomZ jighead, hopping it along the bottom near submerged weed beds. The Big TRD excelled in the clear water, where its larger profile was easily visible to the fish.
The Big TRD performed flawlessly in the moderate conditions, and the water temperature was in the mid-60s, ideal for bass fishing. The wind was calm, and there was minimal current. Its action was enhanced by the buoyancy of the ElaZtech material, allowing it to stand up on the jighead and entice strikes, even when stationary.
The ease of use was remarkable; I didn’t need any special rigging techniques or adjustments. After the first few casts, I quickly developed a rhythm, and the bait’s action was instantly appealing. I caught several quality bass on my first outing with the Big TRD.
I did notice one slight issue after a few hours of fishing; the jighead started to tear slightly in the ElaZtech material. However, I’m accustomed to this with Elaztech and simply re-rigged the Big TRD further up the body.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of consistent use, the Z-man Elaztech Big TRD Stickbait Soft Bait has proven to be exceptionally durable. I’ve caught dozens of bass, pickerel, and even a few surprise catfish on the same few baits. There are minimal signs of wear and tear. The ElaZtech material holds up remarkably well to repeated strikes and hooksets.
Maintaining the Big TRD is incredibly simple. I simply rinse them off with water after each fishing trip and store them in a Z-man tackle binder to prevent them from melting or reacting with other plastics. This minimal effort ensures the baits remain in top condition for extended use.
Compared to my previous experiences with other stickbaits, the Big TRD far outperforms them in terms of durability and longevity. Where other baits would have been shredded after a few fish, the Big TRD continues to deliver, making it a much more cost-effective option in the long run.
