Wiley X, a name synonymous with ballistic protection and optical clarity, has created a goggle that meets and exceeds military specifications while remaining practical for civilian use. Real-World Testing: Putting Wiley X Spear Goggle – APEL Approved, 2 Lens – – 1 out of 4 models to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground for the Wiley X Spear Goggle was a local shooting range during an outdoor tactical training session. The weather was partly cloudy with occasional light rain, offering a decent variety of conditions to assess the goggle’s performance. The clear lens performed admirably in the low-light conditions, providing excellent clarity and wide field of view. Even when the rain picked up, the lens remained mostly clear, and the symmetrical venting system seemed to do a decent job preventing fogging.
Swapping the clear lens for the smoke grey lens proved simple and quick, crucial in dynamic scenarios. After the first use, I was impressed by the clarity and comfort, although I did notice some minor pressure points around the nose bridge after prolonged wear.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use during various outdoor activities, including hiking, airsoft, and more range sessions, the Wiley X Spear Goggle has proven to be a reliable piece of gear. The durability is noteworthy; despite being subjected to scratches from branches and impacts from BBs, the lenses have held up remarkably well with only minor cosmetic blemishes. Cleaning the lenses is straightforward with the included cleaning cloth, and the frame maintains its shape and integrity. Compared to lower-quality goggles I’ve used in the past, the Wiley X Spear Goggle definitely outperforms them in both durability and optical clarity.
