What Makes Viridian OPMOD Omega Green Laser Sight for Rifles, Stand Out?

The Viridian OPMOD Omega Green Laser Sight for Rifles, by Viridian, promises to be a game-changer in target acquisition. It boasts a 5mW green laser, designed for optimal visibility, coupled with a rechargeable power system and robust build quality. I’ve spent years relying on various sighting systems, and the allure of a bright, easily rechargeable green laser with tactical applications piqued my interest.

For years, I’ve struggled with finding a reliable and easily rechargeable laser for my AR platform rifles. Many lasers offer good visibility, but require frequent battery changes or bulky external battery packs. The Viridian OPMOD Omega appeared to address both of these common issues, promising both excellent visibility and a convenient rechargeable system.

Upon unboxing the Viridian OPMOD Omega, my initial impression was positive. The aluminum construction felt solid and durable, hinting at its ability to withstand the rigors of tactical use. The size was surprisingly compact, and the mounting system looked versatile enough to fit a variety of rail configurations.

I considered other laser options, including models from Crimson Trace and Streamlight. However, the Viridian OPMOD Omega stood out due to its integrated rechargeable battery system and the promise of a brighter, more visible green laser. This combination of features, coupled with the Viridian name, ultimately swayed my decision.

My first impression was one of cautious optimism. The design seemed well-thought-out, and the features were promising. The real test, however, would be how it performed in real-world shooting scenarios.

Real-World Testing: Putting Viridian OPMOD Omega Green Laser Sight for Rifles, to the Test

First Use Experience

I initially tested the Viridian OPMOD Omega Green Laser Sight for Rifles, at an outdoor shooting range under varying lighting conditions, from bright sunlight to overcast skies. The laser was mounted on my AR-15 platform rifle, and I tested its effectiveness at distances ranging from 25 to 100 yards. The initial setup and mounting process proved straightforward, thanks to the flexible mounting system.

The green laser was surprisingly visible, even in bright sunlight, a common challenge for laser sights. In low-light conditions, the laser was exceptionally bright, providing a clear and distinct aiming point. The ambidextrous activation buttons were easily accessible, and I quickly became accustomed to activating and deactivating the laser.

After the first range session, I was impressed by the laser’s visibility and ease of use. However, I did notice that the magnetic recharge connection could be a bit finicky, requiring precise alignment to ensure proper charging. Also, I would like to try it on my friend’s MSR platform to test how it holds up.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Viridian OPMOD Omega Green Laser Sight for Rifles, has proven to be a reliable addition to my rifle. It has been through multiple range sessions, a couple of backcountry excursions, and a firearms training course. So far it continues to hold its zero well.

The laser has held up well to the rigors of regular use, showing only minor signs of wear and tear on the aluminum housing. The anodized finish has proven to be durable, resisting scratches and abrasions. However, I take extra precautions when cleaning to avoid damaging the lens.

Maintenance has been simple, primarily involving wiping down the lens with a soft cloth to remove dust and debris. The magnetic charging connection still requires a bit of care to align properly, but the convenience of a rechargeable system outweighs this minor inconvenience. Compared to other laser sights I’ve used, the Viridian OPMOD Omega has consistently outperformed in terms of visibility and battery life, so I would highly recommend.
