First Thoughts on the UPPER GROUP RESOLUTE 5.7X28MM 16.1in Armor Black
The UPPER GROUP RESOLUTE 5.7X28MM 16.1in Armor Black upper receiver group is a unique offering in a market saturated with AR-15s chambered in 5.56 NATO. It’s an intriguing proposition, chambered in the often-overlooked 5.7x28mm cartridge and boasts a sleek Armor Black finish. The 16.1-inch barrel offers a balance of maneuverability and ballistic performance, making it a candidate for both range use and potentially even small game hunting where legal and ethical.
For years, I’ve been searching for a lightweight, accurate, and reliable alternative to the standard AR-15. I was particularly interested in a platform that offered lower recoil and a flatter trajectory for faster follow-up shots. The 5.7x28mm cartridge seemed like a promising solution, and when I saw the UPPER GROUP RESOLUTE 5.7X28MM 16.1in Armor Black available, I jumped at the chance to try it out.
Unboxing the UPPER GROUP RESOLUTE 5.7X28MM 16.1in Armor Black was a pleasant experience. The Armor Black finish is evenly applied and looks incredibly durable, giving the upper a modern and professional aesthetic. The weight felt manageable, lighter than some of my heavier piston-driven uppers, which immediately sparked interest.
I considered the FN Five-seveN pistol and a CMMG Banshee chambered in 5.7x28mm before settling on the UPPER GROUP RESOLUTE 5.7X28MM 16.1in Armor Black. The FN Five-seveN, while a solid pistol, lacked the modularity and familiar ergonomics of the AR platform. The CMMG Banshee, though a complete firearm, was a significantly more expensive investment. I chose the UPPER GROUP RESOLUTE 5.7X28MM 16.1in Armor Black for its balance of affordability, AR-platform familiarity, and the potential for future customization.
My first impression was excitement tempered with a bit of skepticism. Could this upper group really deliver the performance and reliability I was hoping for? At $856.49, it’s not a budget option, but if it lives up to its potential, it could be a worthwhile investment.
Real-World Testing: Putting UPPER GROUP RESOLUTE 5.7X28MM 16.1in Armor Black to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the UPPER GROUP RESOLUTE 5.7X28MM 16.1in Armor Black at my local shooting range. The weather was clear and sunny, with a slight breeze. I paired the upper with a reliable AR-15 lower receiver I already owned, using a standard mil-spec trigger and buffer system.
The UPPER GROUP RESOLUTE 5.7X28MM 16.1in Armor Black performed admirably straight out of the box. Recoil was noticeably lighter than my 5.56 AR, and the muzzle rise was minimal, allowing for quick and accurate follow-up shots. I was consistently hitting steel targets at 50 and 100 yards.
The only initial issue I encountered was a few failures to feed during the first magazine. After lubricating the bolt carrier group more thoroughly, the problem seemed to disappear.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the UPPER GROUP RESOLUTE 5.7X28MM 16.1in Armor Black has proven to be a reliable performer. I’ve put several hundred rounds through it without any significant issues. The Armor Black finish is surprisingly durable, with no visible scratches or wear marks.
Maintenance is straightforward; it cleans up easily with standard AR-15 cleaning tools and solvents. The bolt carrier group does require a bit more attention due to the unique cartridge design, but nothing out of the ordinary. Compared to my previous experience with a direct impingement 5.56 AR, the UPPER GROUP RESOLUTE 5.7X28MM 16.1in Armor Black provides a cleaner shooting experience.
