The UPPER GROUP BANSHEE 9MM 5in Armor Black immediately caught my eye as a potential platform for both range fun and home defense. This 9mm AR-style pistol promised a compact and maneuverable package, while offering the familiar AR ergonomics I’ve grown to appreciate over a decade of tactical gear experience. Could this bridge the gap between a traditional handgun and a full-sized rifle?
My search for the UPPER GROUP BANSHEE 9MM 5in Armor Black began with a need for a versatile, compact firearm. I needed something more potent and accurate than a standard pistol, yet more portable than an AR-15 rifle. The allure of 9mm ammunition – readily available and relatively inexpensive – sealed the deal.
Unboxing the BANSHEE, I was immediately struck by the quality of the Armor Black finish. The coating felt robust and evenly applied, a testament to UPPER GROUP‘s attention to detail. The weight felt substantial, inspiring confidence in the build quality.
Compared to similar 9mm AR pistols from companies like Palmetto State Armory and Angstadt Arms, the BANSHEE stood out because of its aesthetic appeal and reputation for reliability. While others offered similar features, the UPPER GROUP name carried a certain weight, promising a higher level of fit and finish. I chose the BANSHEE because I was willing to invest in what I hoped would be a superior product.

Real-World Testing: Putting UPPER GROUP BANSHEE 9MM 5in Armor Black to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial range trip with the UPPER GROUP BANSHEE 9MM 5in Armor Black took place at my local outdoor range on a sunny afternoon. I ran a variety of 9mm ammunition through it, from standard 115-grain FMJ to heavier 147-grain hollow points. The goal was to assess reliability and accuracy with different loads.
The BANSHEE performed admirably, exhibiting no malfunctions in the first 200 rounds. Accuracy was impressive; easily achieving tight groupings at 25 yards. The recoil was minimal, making follow-up shots quick and easy.
I found the AR-style controls intuitive and familiar. However, the smaller size of the pistol grip compared to a standard AR-15 took a little getting used to. The ambidextrous charging handle was a welcome feature, catering to both right- and left-handed shooters. There were no major issues after the first use, just a slight adjustment to the different ergonomics.
