Let’s Talk About Truglo Xr 29 20x18mm Red Dot Sight W/rmr Mounting System
The Truglo Xr 29 20x18mm Red Dot Sight W/rmr Mounting System is a compact and lightweight optic designed for rapid target acquisition. Manufactured by Truglo, this red dot sight promises to deliver enhanced accuracy and speed in a variety of shooting scenarios.
For years, I relied on iron sights, feeling a sense of tradition in their simplicity. However, as my eyes aged, acquiring targets quickly became a challenge, particularly in low light conditions. The promise of a clear, illuminated red dot that could be easily mounted on my pistol instantly caught my attention.
My first impression upon unboxing the Truglo Xr 29 was its surprisingly diminutive size and weight. The aircraft-grade aluminum construction felt robust, yet the sight itself was remarkably light, suggesting it wouldn’t significantly alter the balance of my handgun. It also came with the RMR mounting system, which is a huge plus.
I considered other red dot sights, including the Holosun 507C and the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro. Ultimately, I chose the Truglo due to its appealing combination of size, weight, RMR compatibility, and price point. I was excited to see if it could live up to its promise of fast target acquisition.
Real-World Testing: Putting Truglo Xr 29 20x18mm Red Dot Sight W/rmr Mounting System to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing took place at an outdoor shooting range, under bright sunlight conditions. Mounting the Truglo Xr 29 on my Glock 19 with an RMR adapter plate was straightforward. Zeroing the sight only required minor adjustments using the provided tool.
The red dot was crisp and clear, and quickly acquiring targets was significantly easier than with iron sights. Even with rapid-fire drills, I found the dot easy to track, allowing for faster follow-up shots.
I did notice that the dot seemed slightly less distinct in very bright sunlight, a common issue with some red dot sights. However, this was easily mitigated by adjusting the brightness setting.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, the Truglo Xr 29 has proven to be a reliable optic. I’ve used it in various conditions, including rain and high humidity, with no noticeable impact on performance.
The aluminum housing has held up well, showing minimal signs of wear despite regular use and transport. Cleaning the lens is simple with a lens cloth and a small amount of lens cleaner.
Compared to my previous experiences with iron sights, the Truglo significantly improved my shooting speed and accuracy. I have seen improvements in my grouping while running drills.
