Real-World Testing: Putting TruGlo TGI Gobble-Stopper Xtreme Choke Tube Combo Winchester 12 Gauge TG172XC to the Test
First Use Experience
My first experience with the TruGlo TGI Gobble-Stopper Xtreme Choke Tube Combo was at my local shooting range. I patterned my Winchester 12-gauge at 30 and 40 yards using various turkey loads, including lead and HEVI-Shot. The goal was to assess the consistency and tightness of the patterns.
The performance was noticeable right away. The patterns were significantly tighter compared to the factory choke tubes I was using previously. Even with different loads, the TruGlo consistently delivered a dense core pattern that would be lethal on a turkey’s head and neck.
The TruGlo choke tube was straightforward to install with the included wrench. It took only a few minutes to swap out my old choke tube, and no special tools were required. The choke tube threaded smoothly into the barrel.
Initially, I was surprised by how dramatically the patterns tightened. It was clear this choke tube would require me to adjust my aiming point slightly. But with a few adjustments and some additional practice shots, I quickly felt comfortable with the new setup.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use during turkey season, the TruGlo TGI Gobble-Stopper Xtreme Choke Tube Combo continued to perform reliably. I encountered both dry and slightly damp hunting conditions. The choke tube showed no signs of corrosion or degradation.
The choke tube’s finish has held up remarkably well, with minimal signs of wear and tear from being transported in my gun case. Cleaning was simple. I simply used a standard shotgun cleaning kit to remove any residue after each hunting trip.
The TruGlo has exceeded my expectations compared to my previous experiences with factory choke tubes. It has transformed my confidence in the field. I’m now consistently achieving clean and ethical kills on turkeys at longer ranges.
