The TruGlo Riser Mount Universal Aluminum AR Platform Scope Base Made a Bold First Impression
The TruGlo Riser Mount Universal Aluminum AR Platform Scope Base promises to be a simple, effective solution for AR owners looking to raise their micro red dot optics. As an experienced outdoor and tactical gear specialist, I’ve encountered numerous optic mounting solutions, and the allure of a universal, aluminum riser at an affordable price point from TruGlo definitely piqued my interest. Could this unassuming piece of kit truly deliver improved sight picture and co-witness capabilities for AR pistols and carbines?
I’ve always struggled to find the perfect cheek weld with micro red dots on my AR platform rifles. Existing mounts either sat too low, forcing me to crane my neck, or were overly complicated and expensive. The TruGlo riser seemed like a potential Goldilocks solution: simple, affordable, and hopefully, just right.
Upon unboxing, I was immediately impressed with the solid feel of the aluminum construction. It had a reassuring heft that suggested durability, and the black anodized finish appeared clean and consistent. Compared to some of the polymer risers I’ve used in the past, the TruGlo felt significantly more robust. I considered other risers from brands like UTG and AIM Sports, but TruGlo’s reputation for value and the promise of a truly universal fit ultimately swayed my decision.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. The TruGlo Riser Mount Universal Aluminum AR Platform Scope Base looked and felt like a quality product, but the true test would be in its installation and performance on the range. For just $27.99, I was hoping it would solve a long standing problem with my AR setup.
Real-World Testing: Putting TruGlo Riser Mount Universal Aluminum AR Platform Scope Base to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing of the TruGlo Riser Mount Universal Aluminum AR Platform Scope Base took place at my local outdoor shooting range. I mounted a Holosun HS507C micro red dot onto the riser and then secured the entire assembly onto the Picatinny rail of my AR-15 pistol. The mounting process was straightforward, requiring only a few minutes and a simple Allen wrench.
During the first range session, I tested the riser across various distances, from 25 yards to 100 yards. The elevated sight picture immediately felt more natural and comfortable, allowing for a more consistent cheek weld. I was able to quickly acquire targets and maintain a stable shooting stance. The riser held zero throughout the session, even after firing several hundred rounds of .223 ammunition.
After the session, I was pleasantly surprised. The enhanced ergonomics and improved target acquisition were immediately noticeable.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the TruGlo Riser Mount Universal Aluminum AR Platform Scope Base continues to perform admirably. I’ve used it in a variety of conditions, including hot, sunny days, as well as cooler, slightly damp environments.
The riser shows no signs of wear and tear, and the anodized finish remains intact. Cleaning is a breeze, requiring only a quick wipe down with a damp cloth. Compared to my previous experiences with lower-quality risers that tended to loosen or shift over time, the TruGlo has proven to be remarkably stable and reliable. It definitely outperformed my expectations for a riser in this price range.
