Let’s Dive into Troy AR-15 Pro Grade Rifle Sling Mount Adapter w/Quick Detach Sling Swivel
The Troy AR-15 Pro Grade Rifle Sling Mount Adapter w/Quick Detach Sling Swivel offers a no-gunsmithing solution for adding a sling attachment point to your AR-15. Made by Troy Industries, this adapter clamps onto the receiver extension and provides a secure QD sling swivel mount. It’s designed for ease of installation and enhanced reliability, securing the receiver extension nut to prevent buffer tube rotation.
My quest for the perfect sling mount began with a common problem: the limitations of my rifle’s factory sling attachment points. I needed a more versatile and ambidextrous solution that wouldn’t require permanent modifications to my rifle. I wanted something rock solid.
My initial impression upon unboxing was positive. The Troy adapter felt substantial and well-machined, indicating robust build quality. The included QD swivel appeared durable, and the finish was clean and even.
I considered other options, like replacing the endplate or using a rail-mounted QD attachment, but I opted for the Troy adapter for its simplicity and non-permanent nature. Endplate replacement required tools and potentially armorer assistance that I didn’t want to seek out. The Troy AR-15 Pro Grade Rifle Sling Mount Adapter w/Quick Detach Sling Swivel promised an easy install without these complexities.
My first impression was excitement tempered by the price. I hoped the performance would justify the investment. Would it truly provide a stable and reliable sling attachment point, or would it feel like an overpriced afterthought?
Real-World Testing: Putting Troy AR-15 Pro Grade Rifle Sling Mount Adapter w/Quick Detach Sling Swivel to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Troy AR-15 Pro Grade Rifle Sling Mount Adapter w/Quick Detach Sling Swivel at an outdoor shooting range. I used it during various drills that involved transitioning between firing positions and moving with the rifle slung. The weather was clear and dry.
The adapter performed well under these conditions. It allowed for a comfortable and secure sling carry. The QD swivel provided smooth and quick sling detachment when needed.
Installation was straightforward, requiring only the removal of the stock and a basic understanding of AR-15 disassembly. I experienced no issues during the installation process. It was simple and easy.
The only surprise I encountered was that the adapter added a small amount of length to the receiver extension, which slightly affected the fully collapsed stock position on my rifle. This wasn’t a significant issue, but it was noticeable. The stock wouldn’t fully collapse as far as before.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, the Troy AR-15 Pro Grade Rifle Sling Mount Adapter w/Quick Detach Sling Swivel has proven to be reliable. There are no signs of loosening or movement. It holds up very well.
The finish has held up well, with only minor wear marks from normal use. It cleans easily with a standard gun cleaning solvent and brush. Maintenance is minimal.
Compared to a basic sling attachment point, the Troy adapter offers a significant improvement in versatility and comfort. The QD swivel allows for quick and easy sling adjustments and detachment. It gives this the edge over other mounts. I appreciate the fact that it doesn’t require any permanent modifications to the rifle.
