TR Imports SE122TACB 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock with Pistol Grip Review

The TR Imports SE122TACB 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock with Pistol Grip Made a Bold First Impression

After a decade immersed in the world of outdoor and tactical gear, I’ve seen a lot of shotguns modified for different purposes. When I first heard about the TR Imports SE122TACB 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock with Pistol Grip, my interest was piqued by its promise of enhanced versatility and maneuverability. The TR Imports name, while not as ubiquitous as some of the larger manufacturers, had a reputation for delivering solid, functional products at a reasonable price point, making it an intriguing option for budget-conscious shooters seeking tactical upgrades.

My primary need was to find a way to improve the handling of my trusted, but somewhat unwieldy, 12-gauge shotgun. The factory stock was fine for general use, but when I started exploring more dynamic shooting scenarios, it felt cumbersome and limited my range of motion. I needed something that would offer better control, especially in tight spaces, and the folding stock design seemed like the perfect solution.

Unboxing the TR Imports SE122TACB was a pleasant surprise. The high-strength polymer felt robust and well-molded, instilling confidence in its ability to withstand heavy use. The pistol grip had a reassuring texture that felt secure in my hand, and the folding mechanism operated smoothly and locked firmly into place. My first thought was, “This could be a game-changer for my shotgun’s handling”.

I considered the Mesa Tactical LEO Gen II Telescoping Stock Kit and the Magpul SGA Stock for the Mossberg 500/590, both reputable options. However, the TR Imports model stood out due to its folding functionality and significantly lower price point, making it a more appealing choice for my specific needs and budget. The other stocks were more expensive and lacked the folding feature, so I chose the TR Imports SE122TACB.

My first impression was excitement tempered with a bit of skepticism. The build quality seemed good, but I knew the real test would be how it performed under pressure at the range. I was eager to see if the TR Imports SE122TACB 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock with Pistol Grip lived up to its promises.

Real-World Testing: Putting TR Imports SE122TACB 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock with Pistol Grip to the Test

First Use Experience

My initial testing ground for the TR Imports SE122TACB was my local outdoor shooting range. I wanted to gauge its performance in a controlled environment before subjecting it to more demanding conditions. The range offered a variety of shooting distances and scenarios, allowing me to test the stock’s adjustability and handling with different types of ammunition.

The weather was mild, with a slight breeze, ideal conditions for shooting. Installing the stock was straightforward, thanks to the clear instructions provided by TR Imports. The adjustable tactical stock allowed me to quickly customize the length-of-pull for a comfortable and secure fit.

Using the ergonomic pistol grip felt natural, and I immediately noticed an improvement in my control over the shotgun. The textured surface provided a positive grip, even with sweaty hands after repeated shooting. The shock-absorbing recoil pad also did a decent job of mitigating the felt recoil, although a 12-gauge is always going to make itself known. My first impression was that the TR Imports SE122TACB delivered on its promise of enhanced control and comfort.

The only initial issue I encountered was the cheek weld, which felt a little low for my preferred sight picture.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of consistent use, the TR Imports SE122TACB has proven to be a reliable and worthwhile addition to my shotgun. The polymer construction has held up well, showing no signs of cracking or significant wear despite being subjected to various weather conditions and rough handling. The folding stock mechanism continues to operate smoothly, and the lockup remains solid and secure.

I’ve taken the shotgun equipped with the TR Imports stock on several hunting trips, and it has performed admirably in both dense woodland and open fields. The folding stock really shines when navigating tight brush or storing the shotgun in a confined space. It has also been through rain and mud, with the polymer construction proving easy to clean and maintain.

Compared to the original factory stock, the TR Imports SE122TACB offers a significant improvement in handling and versatility. The pistol grip provides superior control, especially during rapid firing, and the adjustable length-of-pull allows for a more personalized and comfortable shooting experience. While a higher-end stock might offer slightly better recoil absorption or more refined adjustments, the TR Imports SE122TACB delivers exceptional value for its price point. I can tell it offers superior quality for the price.
