The TR Imports RZ17 Tactical 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock with Pistol Grip Made a Bold First Impression
For years, I’ve been modifying and customizing firearms, always striving for that perfect blend of function and form. When I first laid eyes on the TR Imports RZ17 Tactical 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock with Pistol Grip, I knew I had to get my hands on it. This isn’t just another shotgun stock; it’s a statement.
I’d been searching for a way to improve the maneuverability of my trusty 12-gauge for home defense scenarios. The factory stock was cumbersome in tight spaces, and a pistol grip alone didn’t offer the stability I needed for accurate follow-up shots. The promise of a folding stock combined with an ergonomic pistol grip immediately piqued my interest, promising a solution to both problems.
The unboxing experience was straightforward. The stock itself felt solid and well-made, even before installation. The lightweight polymer felt robust, not cheap, and the texturing on the pistol grip offered immediate confidence.
I considered the Mesa Tactical Urbino stock with pistol grip and the Magpul SGA stock before settling on the TR Imports RZ17 Tactical 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock with Pistol Grip. While the Mesa Tactical offers a more premium feel, the price point was significantly higher. The Magpul SGA is excellent, but lacks the folding capability that was a priority for my needs. The TR Imports stock seemed to offer the best balance of features, durability, and affordability.
My first impression was excitement mixed with cautious optimism. Could this relatively inexpensive stock truly deliver the performance and reliability I needed? Only time and testing would tell, but initial handling suggested TR Imports had created something worthwhile.
Real-World Testing: Putting TR Imports RZ17 Tactical 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock with Pistol Grip to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing took place at my local outdoor shooting range, specifically designed for tactical shotgun drills. I wanted to gauge the RZ17’s performance under rapid-fire conditions and assess its impact on recoil management. The weather was typical for the area – dry and dusty, a common challenge for any firearm accessory.
The Adjustable Tactical Stock proved its worth immediately, allowing me to quickly dial in the length-of-pull for a comfortable and stable shooting position. The Ergonomic Pistol Grip offered a noticeable improvement in control compared to the standard stock, particularly during rapid target acquisition. After getting used to the new grip, the textured surface allowed for consistent and safe handling while shooting.
The folding mechanism initially felt a bit stiff, but after a few cycles, it loosened up and operated smoothly. One surprise was how much smaller the shotgun became when folded, making it incredibly easy to maneuver around barricades and simulate home-defense scenarios.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use, including multiple range sessions and a practical shotgun course, the TR Imports RZ17 Tactical 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock with Pistol Grip has held up remarkably well. The polymer construction shows no signs of cracking or significant wear, even after being subjected to moderate abuse.
The finish has proven to be surprisingly durable, resisting scratches and scuffs from handling and storage. Cleaning is a breeze; a simple wipe-down with a damp cloth removes most dirt and grime. Unlike some stocks with intricate designs, the RZ17’s simplicity makes it easy to maintain.
Compared to my previous experience with a standard fixed stock, the RZ17 offers a vastly superior shooting experience. The improved control, adjustability, and compact storage are significant advantages. I can confidently say it outperforms the original stock in every measurable way.
