I was looking for a large, durable knife that could handle everything from batoning wood to heavy chopping. I needed something that would perform reliably in a survival situation. The Tops Knives Armageddon 16.5″ Fixed Blade Knife, with its full tang construction and 1095 high carbon steel blade, seemed like it would be perfect for my requirements.
Upon unboxing, the Armageddon made an immediate impression. Its weight felt substantial, a reassuring heft that speaks to its solid construction. The black traction coating on the blade gives it a menacing look, while the black Micarta handles provide a secure and comfortable grip.
Compared to similar knives like the ESEE Junglas or the Ontario Knife Company RTAK-II, the Armageddon stood out due to its slightly thicker blade stock and more aggressive handle design. While the others are excellent options, I felt that the Tops Knives Armageddon 16.5″ Fixed Blade Knife offered a better balance of chopping power and control. I picked it due to TOPS Knives’ reputation for producing incredibly durable knives.
I was excited but also a little intimidated by the sheer size of the blade. It’s a serious tool, and I was eager to see how it would perform in real-world scenarios. I looked forward to getting it out in the field.

First Use Experience
I first tested the Tops Knives Armageddon 16.5″ Fixed Blade Knife on a weekend camping trip in the local mountains. I used it primarily for processing firewood, building a shelter, and preparing food. The terrain was a mix of dense forest and rocky outcroppings.
The knife performed admirably in all conditions. Even in damp conditions, the Micarta handle provided a secure grip. The blade’s weight made chopping through small trees and thick branches relatively effortless.
Using this tool straight out of the box was simple. The handle was comfortable and intuitive. It performed well, requiring little to no time to get accustomed to its weight and balance.
After the first use, I noticed a small amount of coating wear on the blade, but nothing significant. It performed exactly as I had hoped it would.
