Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target Review

First Impressions of Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target

In the realm of shooting sports, reactive targets have always held a special allure. The satisfying thwack and visible movement provide instant feedback, making practice sessions more engaging and effective. The Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target promises just that – a durable, self-resetting target that eliminates the need for constant down-range trips.

What drew me to this particular target was the frustration of constantly walking downrange to reset steel targets during practice sessions. I wanted something that would allow me to maximize my time shooting and minimize the interruptions. After all, time is money, and range time is precious!

The Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target arrived in a simple, no-frills package. My first impression was that the Polymer construction felt robust, though lighter than expected. The bright green color makes it highly visible, and the design appeared straightforward and functional.

Compared to other self-resetting targets I’ve used, like the metal resetting trees or spinner targets, the Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target offers a unique advantage: its SHOOT-THROO polymer construction is designed to withstand direct bullet impacts. I had previously considered other polymer targets with similar reset functions, but the Throom Target’s promise of increased longevity and bullet pass-through hinge system swayed my decision. I was hopeful this would minimize ricochet and overall target wear.

My initial reaction was cautiously optimistic. I was excited to test its claims of durability and self-resetting capabilities, but also slightly skeptical about whether the polymer material could truly withstand repeated impacts from various calibers. It would need to prove itself on the range.

Real-World Testing: Putting Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target to the Test

First Use Experience

My initial test took place at my local outdoor shooting range. I mounted the Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target on a standard 2×4, as recommended by Throom Targets, at a distance of 25 yards. I started with a .22LR pistol to get a feel for the target’s reaction.

The target snapped back with a satisfying bounce upon impact, quickly returning to its upright position. The ease of use was immediately apparent; no adjustments were needed, and the setup was incredibly simple. The first magazine went smoothly, and I was impressed by the target’s consistent performance. However, after switching to a 9mm pistol, I noticed some minor chipping around the edges of the target after about 50 rounds.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of consistent use, the Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target has proven to be a reliable training tool, but with some caveats. While the self-resetting mechanism continues to function flawlessly, the Polymer material has shown signs of wear and tear, particularly when subjected to higher caliber rounds.

I now primarily use it with .22LR and 9mm, and at these calibers, the target has held up reasonably well. Cleaning is simple – a quick wipe down with a damp cloth removes any residue. Compared to my previous experiences with steel targets, the Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target offers a safer shooting experience due to the reduction in ricochet, but the durability isn’t quite on par.

Breaking Down the Features of Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target

Specifications

The Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target features a 6-inch diameter round target made from SHOOT-THROO polymer. It is designed to mount on standard soft wood 2x4s, 2x3s, and 1x6s. The target’s auto-resetting mechanism relies on a flexible hinge at the base, also constructed from the same durable polymer.

The single-piece construction simplifies setup and reduces the number of parts that could potentially fail. Throom Targets specifies that the target is green in color and comes as a single unit. The choice of color enhances visibility, ensuring the target is easily seen against various backgrounds.

Performance & Functionality

The Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target excels at providing instant feedback and eliminating the need for manual resetting. Accuracy is dependent on the shooter, of course, but the consistent target presentation helps in developing proper shooting techniques. However, the target’s ability to withstand repeated impacts from higher caliber rounds is a weakness.

The polymer material is prone to chipping and deformation over time, especially with frequent use of rounds larger than 9mm. While the self-resetting mechanism works perfectly, the longevity of the target is a concern. Ultimately, the Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target meets expectations for low-caliber training but falls short for heavy-duty, high-volume shooting with larger calibers.

Design & Ergonomics

The build quality of the Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target is generally good, though the relatively lightweight Polymer construction may not inspire complete confidence. The target is easy to handle and mount, with no complicated assembly required. The bright green color significantly aids in target acquisition, particularly in wooded or low-light environments.

The single-piece design minimizes potential failure points, and the flexible hinge provides reliable reset action. The target presents a clear, consistent aiming point. However, the long-term durability of the hinge is questionable if subjected to frequent hits.

Durability & Maintenance

The lifespan of the Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target depends heavily on the caliber and frequency of use. With .22LR and 9mm, it can last for a reasonable amount of time with proper care. However, larger calibers will significantly reduce its lifespan.

Maintenance is straightforward. Regular cleaning with a damp cloth will remove any powder residue and help maintain visibility. Repairing damage beyond minor chipping is not feasible; replacement of the entire target is necessary.

Accessories and Customization Options

The Throom Targets Bounceback 6in Round Auto-Reset Target doesn’t come with any specific accessories beyond the target itself. The primary “customization” option is the mounting surface – shooters can choose to mount it on various types of wood or even steel frames for added stability. There are no provisions for attaching optics or other accessories to the target itself.

While the target isn’t directly compatible with accessories from other brands, the standard mounting system allows for easy integration with existing target stands. This adaptability makes it a versatile addition to any shooting range setup.
