The TacStar Tactical Pistol Grip Remington 870 Made a Bold First Impression
The TacStar Tactical Pistol Grip Remington 870 promises to transform a classic shotgun into a more maneuverable and aggressive platform. This upgrade appeals to those seeking enhanced control and a modern aesthetic for their trusted Remington 870. It aims to provide improved handling in close-quarters situations, offering a more ergonomic grip and reducing the overall length of the shotgun.
I’d been looking for a way to improve the handling of my Remington 870 for home defense purposes. The standard stock felt cumbersome in tight spaces, and I wanted a more secure grip for rapid target acquisition. A pistol grip seemed like the perfect solution for increased control and maneuverability.
Upon opening the box, the grip itself appeared to be well-molded from what felt like durable ABS polymer. It was lightweight and seemingly designed for a comfortable hold. The black finish matched my existing shotgun components.
While I considered other pistol grips, including some from Hogue and Magpul, the TacStar stood out due to its affordability. The price point of $26.99 made it a low-risk investment to try out a tactical grip. I hoped this would significantly improve my shotgun’s handling without breaking the bank.
My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. The grip looked the part, but I was eager to see how it would perform on the range. The price was right, but I needed to verify its impact on my shooting accuracy and control.
Real-World Testing: Putting TacStar Tactical Pistol Grip Remington 870 to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial test was at an outdoor shooting range, where I could safely evaluate the TacStar Tactical Pistol Grip Remington 870 in a controlled environment. I focused on simulating home-defense scenarios, practicing quick target acquisition and follow-up shots. The weather was dry and mild, ideal conditions for testing.
The biggest change was the shotgun’s balance and how it felt in my hands. It required a slightly different technique compared to the standard stock. I also noticed it became more challenging to absorb the recoil initially.
A minor hiccup occurred during installation. The grip didn’t fit perfectly on my Remington 870 without some minor filing. This echoed the experience of another user, who mentioned needing modifications to fit a Stevens 320.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several range sessions spanning a few months, the TacStar Tactical Pistol Grip Remington 870 has proven reasonably durable for its price. The ABS polymer hasn’t shown any significant signs of wear or cracking, even after repeated use with 12-gauge shells. However, the finish has started to show some minor scuff marks.
Maintenance is simple. A quick wipe down with a damp cloth after each use is usually sufficient to keep it clean. The grip hasn’t required any special lubricants or treatments.
Compared to shooting with the original stock, the pistol grip definitely offers better maneuverability in close quarters. However, the increased recoil and need for a modified shooting stance are noticeable drawbacks. While the original stock provided better recoil absorption, the TacStar offers greater control.
