The Super Vel Ammunition 10mm 180 grain Full Metal Jacket Brass Cased Pistol Ammunition
Up to 22% Off promises a potent blend of power and precision in a caliber that has carved out a dedicated following. The 10mm Auto, conceived as the “perfect combat cartridge,” aims to deliver .40 caliber performance with the punch exceeding a .45 ACP. With Super Vel’s reputation for quality, this offering seeks to be a reliable and accurate choice for both target shooting and self-defense scenarios.
My journey to this particular ammunition stemmed from a desire to find a reliable, consistent, and accurate load for my Glock 20. I wanted something suitable for both range practice and, potentially, wilderness defense against larger predators encountered while hiking and camping in the backcountry. I also needed something that would function reliably across different platforms.
Upon receiving the Super Vel Ammunition 10mm 180 grain Full Metal Jacket, I was immediately struck by the professional packaging. The vibrant yellow box exuded a sense of quality and attention to detail. The rounds themselves appeared clean and well-manufactured.
Before settling on this offering, I considered similar FMJ options from Federal and Winchester. Ultimately, the Super Vel ammunition’s promise of clean-burning powder and exceptional accuracy, coupled with its competitive price point (especially with the discount), swayed my decision. The positive online feedback from other 10mm enthusiasts further cemented my choice.
My initial impression was positive. I was excited to put the ammunition through its paces and see if it lived up to its claims of reliability and accuracy. The discount definitely sweetened the deal!

First Use Experience
My first experience with the Super Vel Ammunition 10mm 180 grain FMJ was at an outdoor shooting range on a relatively cool, dry day. I primarily used my Glock 20, but also cycled a few magazines through a 1911-style 10mm to gauge consistency. The ammunition performed flawlessly.
Across both platforms, I experienced no malfunctions, failures to feed, or any other issues. The recoil was stout, as expected with 10mm, but manageable and consistent. The ammunition cycled reliably, and I noted no unusual residue or excessive smoke.
The Super Vel ammunition proved easy to use right out of the box. No special adjustments or considerations were necessary. It simply loaded into the magazines and fired without issue.
One initial surprise was the perceived cleanliness of the ammunition. I noticed less fouling and residue on my firearms compared to some cheaper practice ammunition I had used previously. This suggested that Super Vel’s claim of clean-burning powder was indeed accurate.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months and approximately 500 rounds fired, the Super Vel Ammunition 10mm 180 grain FMJ has consistently performed above expectations. It has proven to be a reliable and accurate choice for range training.
Regarding durability, there is obviously no wear on the ammo itself, but the brass casings have held up well for reloading. I have reloaded some of them twice already and they are still performing as good as new.
Maintenance is minimal, as is typical for FMJ ammunition. Cleaning my firearms after using the Super Vel rounds is noticeably easier due to the cleaner-burning powder. This cuts down on cleaning time and potentially reduces wear on the firearm components.
In comparison to other 10mm FMJ ammunition I’ve used, the Super Vel offering stands out for its consistent performance and cleaner burn. It provides a noticeable improvement in reliability and ease of maintenance compared to some cheaper alternatives. I also find that I get tighter groupings, which indicates greater accuracy.
