This climber features Summit’s popular Surround Seat, a 180-degree rotating seat, and a generously sized platform, making it an appealing option for those long days in the woods.
For years, I’ve struggled to find a stand that truly allowed me to adapt to changing deer patterns without sacrificing comfort. The promise of a rotating seat and larger platform drew me to the Summit Treestands 180 MAX SD Climbing Treestand.
Unboxing the Summit Treestands 180 MAX SD Climbing Treestand, I was immediately impressed by the robust construction and the quality of the Mossy Oak Breakup Infinity camo finish. The aluminum frame felt surprisingly lightweight for its size, and the welds appeared clean and strong.
Compared to my older, fixed-position stand and a competitor’s lightweight climber, the Summit seemed to offer a better balance between comfort and portability. The rotating seat was a unique selling point, addressing my need for improved field of view.
My initial excitement was high, tempered by a little apprehension about the learning curve of a new climbing system. I hoped the Summit Treestands 180 MAX SD Climbing Treestand would live up to its promise of a comfortable, versatile, and safe hunting experience.
Real-World Testing: Putting Summit Treestands 180 MAX SD Climbing Treestand to the Test
First Use Experience
My first hunt with the Summit Treestands 180 MAX SD Climbing Treestand was in a mature hardwood forest in central Wisconsin. The temperature was cool and crisp, with a slight breeze – perfect deer hunting weather.
The RapidClimb Stirrups made climbing relatively easy, even with bulky hunting boots. The QuickDraw Cable Retention System lived up to its name; attaching and detaching the cables was fast and quiet.
The 180-degree rotating seat proved invaluable when a buck circled downwind, allowing me to make a smooth, silent adjustment for the shot. After a few hours, the seat remained comfortable, a testament to Summit’s design.
Extended Use & Reliability
After a full season of use, the Summit Treestands 180 MAX SD Climbing Treestand has proven its worth. There are a few minor scuffs on the camo finish, but otherwise, the stand is holding up remarkably well.
The aluminum frame shows no signs of bending or weakening. I’ve applied a bit of silicone lubricant to the cables to keep them running smoothly, and wipe down the seat after each hunt.
Compared to my previous stand, the Summit offers a significantly more comfortable and versatile hunting experience. The rotating seat alone makes it a game-changer, and I no longer dread those long sits in the stand.
