Let’s Talk About Strike King KVD Sexy Frog Leopard Frog Soft Bait
The Strike King KVD Sexy Frog Leopard Frog Soft Bait isn’t just another lure; it’s a carefully crafted tool designed to entice even the most finicky bass out of heavy cover. Manufactured by Strike King, this lure promises topwater excitement and explosive strikes. Its unique design, including a sealed nose and Gamakatsu hook, sets it apart from the competition.
I’ve spent years wrestling bass from the thickest vegetation, and the constant snagging and missed hooksets became a serious frustration. I needed a frog lure that could not only navigate heavy cover with ease but also deliver a solid hookup ratio. I was looking for a reliable topwater bait that could handle the abuse of lily pads, hydrilla, and reeds.
Upon unboxing the Strike King KVD Sexy Frog Leopard Frog Soft Bait, I was immediately impressed by the feel of the soft, collapsible body. The leopard frog pattern looked incredibly realistic, and the embedded Gamakatsu hook appeared incredibly sharp. The lure felt well-balanced and ready for action.
Compared to other frog lures I’ve used, such as the Spro Bronzeye Frog and the LiveTarget Hollow Body Frog, the Strike King KVD Sexy Frog stood out due to its unique combination of a soft body and a sealed nose. The Spro felt a bit too stiff, and the LiveTarget seemed prone to water intake. I chose the Strike King KVD Sexy Frog hoping its design would address these common issues.
My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. The Strike King KVD Sexy Frog Leopard Frog Soft Bait looked and felt promising, but the real test would be on the water. I was eager to see if it could live up to the hype.
Real-World Testing: Putting Strike King KVD Sexy Frog Leopard Frog Soft Bait to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Strike King KVD Sexy Frog Leopard Frog Soft Bait at Lake Okeechobee, Florida, a renowned bass fishing destination known for its heavy vegetation. The conditions were ideal: a warm, sunny day with a slight breeze. I targeted areas with thick lily pads and hydrilla mats.
The lure performed admirably in these challenging conditions. It glided smoothly across the surface of the water, and the sealed nose effectively minimized water intake. The frog walked effortlessly with a subtle side-to-side action.
The initial cast resulted in an immediate strike from a decent-sized bass, and the hookup was solid. I experienced no issues with snagging or the frog diving beneath the surface prematurely. My confidence in this frog grew quickly.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of consistent use, the Strike King KVD Sexy Frog Leopard Frog Soft Bait has proven to be a reliable and durable lure. The soft body shows minimal signs of wear and tear, even after numerous encounters with aggressive bass and abrasive vegetation. The paint has held up well, with minimal fading or chipping.
Maintaining the Strike King KVD Sexy Frog Leopard Frog Soft Bait is straightforward. I simply squeeze out any excess water after each use and store it in my tackle box. The Gamakatsu hook remains sharp, but I occasionally touch it up with a hook sharpener to ensure optimal performance.
Compared to my previous experiences with other frog lures, the Strike King KVD Sexy Frog Leopard Frog Soft Bait has significantly outperformed them in terms of hookup ratio and durability. It allows me to fish heavy cover with confidence, knowing that I’m maximizing my chances of landing a trophy bass. This frog has rapidly become one of my favorites.
