Strike Industries Siegen Rail Cover Review

Let’s Talk About Strike Industries Siegen Rail Cover

The Strike Industries Siegen Rail Cover promises an innovative solution for M-LOK rail systems, offering cable management and a comfortable grip. Strike Industries aimed to combine heat protection with a practical wire routing system in a lightweight package. Unfortunately, my experience with these rail covers was far from positive, and I can’t recommend them.

I was looking for a low-profile, lightweight solution to manage weapon light cables on my AR-15. These seemed like a good option, especially considering my past positive experiences with other Strike Industries products. My initial thoughts were that the rubber felt a little cheap, but the design seemed promising, and the weight was definitely minimal.

Compared to Magpul M-LOK Rail Covers, Type 2, which I’ve used extensively, the Siegen felt less robust from the start. The Magpul covers offer superior grip and durability, but I was hoping the Siegen would win out in the cable management department. I was initially excited by the potential, but quickly disappointed by the execution.

Real-World Testing: Putting Strike Industries Siegen Rail Cover to the Test

First Use Experience

I installed the Siegen Rail Covers on my Roam free-float handguard at home before a range trip. The installation itself was simple, pressing the covers into the M-LOK slots. My first impression during the range trip was positive in regard to the added gripping surface.

After a few magazines of .223, I attempted to remove one of the covers to adjust my light cable routing. This is where the real problems began; the rubber immediately cracked and tore upon attempting removal. I was frustrated that I had already damaged my handguard while trying to get this cheap product off.

Extended Use & Reliability

There was no extended use because the rail covers cracked during the initial removal attempt. These Siegen Rail Covers did not hold up to even the slightest manipulation. They are nearly impossible to remove without damaging them or the handguard.

Maintenance and care are irrelevant since they are essentially single-use items. They certainly did not outperform my previous experiences with other rail covers, and were the worst I have ever used.

Breaking Down the Features of Strike Industries Siegen Rail Cover

Specifications

The Strike Industries Siegen Rail Cover is made of NBR 1052 rubber. This is stated to withstand heat up to 320 degrees Fahrenheit. Each cover is 39.44 mm long, 12.28 mm wide, and weighs 0.7 oz.

Each pack contains five covers, designed for M-LOK mounting. The most touted feature is its light/laser cable management capability. However, these specifications are meaningless if the product fails in basic functionality.

Performance & Functionality

The Siegen Rail Cover fails to perform its basic function as a rail cover because it’s nearly impossible to remove without damage. Cable management is a moot point if the cover breaks apart during adjustments. It falls far short of expectations.

The only strength is the initial ease of installation. The weakness is catastrophic failure upon removal, rendering cable management useless.

Design & Ergonomics

The Siegen Rail Cover’s build quality is poor. The rubber feels cheap and lacks durability. The lightweight design is appealing, but the material choice undermines any ergonomic benefits.

The installation is user-friendly, but the difficult removal process negates this benefit. The learning curve is nonexistent, but the frustration level is high.

Durability & Maintenance

Based on my experience, it will not last beyond the first adjustment. There is no maintenance to speak of since the covers are essentially disposable after installation.

Accessories and Customization Options

The Siegen Rail Cover comes with wire cavity inserts, meant to be placeholders until you need to manage cables. There are no further customization options. The M-LOK compatibility means it will fit on any standard M-LOK rail system.

Pros and Cons of Strike Industries Siegen Rail Cover

Pros

  • Easy Installation.
  • Lightweight Design.
  • Inexpensive Price.

Cons

  • Extremely Difficult to Remove.
  • Cracks Easily During Removal.
  • Can Damage Handguard During Removal.

Who Should Buy Strike Industries Siegen Rail Cover?

This product is perfect for nobody. No shooter or tactical user would benefit from a product that damages their equipment and is essentially single-use.

Anyone who values the integrity of their firearm should avoid this product. Alternatives like Magpul M-LOK covers or dedicated cable management solutions are far superior.

A must-have accessory would be a handguard repair kit after attempting to remove these covers.

Conclusion on Strike Industries Siegen Rail Cover

The Strike Industries Siegen Rail Cover is a deeply flawed product. Its primary weakness is its inability to be removed without damage, rendering its cable management features useless and potentially damaging your handguard.

The low price is not justified given its poor performance and potential to cause damage. I would not recommend this product to anyone. Save your money and invest in a more reliable rail cover solution from another manufacturer.
