Specialty Archery Fiber Kit Review

Let’s Dive into Specialty Archery Fiber Kit

The Specialty Archery Fiber Kit isn’t the flashiest piece of archery equipment, but it’s often the unsung hero enabling peak performance from your existing sight. Designed by Specialty Archery, this kit allows archers to upgrade the fiber optic strands in their current sights, even if those sights aren’t originally from Specialty Archery themselves. This opens up a world of possibilities for improving visibility, especially in low-light conditions.

My archery game has been improving, but my low-light performance has suffered due to dull fiber optics in my sight. I was looking for a way to brighten my sight picture without having to replace the entire unit, and this seemed like the perfect solution.

The kit arrives in a simple, but functional package. The fiber lengths appear to be high-quality, and the included accessories are well-machined. Compared to simply buying generic fiber, this kit offered a more complete solution. I was excited to see if the improved brightness would make a noticeable difference in my early morning hunts.

Real-World Testing: Putting Specialty Archery Fiber Kit to the Test

First Use Experience

I initially tested the Specialty Archery Fiber Kit at my local archery range, replacing the .020″ fiber in my single-pin hunting sight. I wanted to compare the new fiber against the old during a morning practice session before heading into the field. The range was slightly overcast, simulating the low-light conditions I often encounter during dawn hunts.

The difference was immediately noticeable. The new fiber, even in the relatively dim light of the range, glowed with a vibrant intensity that my old fiber simply couldn’t match. The enhanced visibility significantly improved my confidence and target acquisition speed. No unexpected issues arose during the initial installation or use.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of use, including multiple hunting trips in varying weather conditions, the Specialty Archery Fiber Kit continues to impress. The fiber remains bright and has shown no signs of fading or discoloration. I’ve hunted in light rain and even some dusty conditions; the clear protective shroud has done a good job of shielding the fiber.

Cleaning is simple; a quick wipe-down of the shroud is usually all that’s needed. In comparison to my past experiences with other fiber optic replacements, this kit has exceeded my expectations in terms of brightness and durability. The Specialty Archery Fiber Kit has become an integral part of my hunting setup.

Breaking Down the Features of Specialty Archery Fiber Kit

Specifications

The Specialty Archery Fiber Kit includes several key components:

• Clear Fiber Optic Strands: The kit provides 8″ lengths of clear fiber optic in three different diameters: .010″, .020″, and .030″. These varying sizes allow archers to fine-tune the brightness and pin visibility according to their preferences and shooting conditions.
• Clear Protective Shroud: A clear protective shroud shields the fiber optic strand from damage and debris. This shroud ensures that the fiber remains clean and unobstructed, maximizing its light-gathering capabilities.
• Aluminum Fiber Adapter: The aluminum fiber adapter serves as a secure mounting point for the fiber optic strand. This adapter allows for easy installation and ensures proper alignment within the sight housing.
• Compression Washer: A compression washer helps to secure the fiber optic within the adapter. It provides a tight and reliable fit, preventing the fiber from slipping or becoming dislodged during use.
• Clamp and Bolt Mounting System: A clamp and bolt mounting system allows for attaching the fiber optic to various sight setups. This provides versatility, ensuring compatibility with various manufacturer’s scope.

These specifications matter because they address the core needs of archers seeking to improve their sight visibility. The range of fiber diameters offers flexibility in brightness, while the protective shroud and adapter ensure durability and easy installation.

Performance & Functionality

The Specialty Archery Fiber Kit excels at its primary function: enhancing sight pin brightness. The clear fiber optics gather ambient light and concentrate it at the tip of the pin, creating a brighter and more visible aiming point.

The kit’s main strength is the significant improvement in sight pin visibility, especially in low-light situations. One weakness lies in the installation process, which can be fiddly depending on the sight being used. Despite this, the benefits of improved visibility far outweigh the minor inconvenience of installation. The kit meets and exceeds expectations, delivering a noticeable boost in sight pin brightness.

Design & Ergonomics

The Specialty Archery Fiber Kit is designed with functionality in mind. The materials used are durable and lightweight. The clear protective shroud is particularly well-designed, offering excellent protection without significantly adding to the sight’s bulk.

The kit is relatively user-friendly, but archers with limited experience in sight maintenance may need to consult online resources or seek assistance from a knowledgeable friend. Once installed, the enhanced brightness and clarity of the sight pin significantly improve the overall shooting experience.

Durability & Maintenance

The Specialty Archery Fiber Kit is built to last. The aluminum adapter and protective shroud offer excellent resistance to wear and tear, while the fiber optic itself is surprisingly resilient.

Maintenance is minimal; a quick wipe-down of the shroud is usually sufficient to keep the fiber clean and unobstructed. The kit is designed for long-term use, and with proper care, it should provide years of reliable performance.

Accessories and Customization Options

The Specialty Archery Fiber Kit comes with everything needed for basic installation. The different fiber sizes allow for some customization of brightness.

While the kit itself doesn’t offer extensive customization options, it is compatible with a wide range of sights from various manufacturers. The flexibility to use the kit with existing equipment makes it a valuable addition to any archer’s toolkit.
