Let’s Talk About Scopecoat Counter and Range Mat
The Scopecoat Counter and Range Mat from Scopecoat is designed to provide a clean, cushioned surface for maintaining your firearms, whether you’re at the range, in your workshop, or even at home. It’s constructed from durable Neoprene and comes in either 3mm or 6mm thickness, offering a practical solution for protecting both your firearm and your workspace. This mat is a simple tool, but often simplicity is the key to a job well done.
I was in the market for a reliable and portable surface to clean my firearms after range trips. My kitchen table had seen better days, covered in solvent stains and the occasional stray spring, so I needed something dedicated and protective. The Scopecoat Counter and Range Mat seemed like a good solution, and frankly, anything was better than what I was using.
Upon unboxing, the mat felt durable and well-made. The Neoprene had a nice density to it, providing a good amount of cushioning. The Scopecoat Counter and Range Mat‘s size, 18″ x 24″, felt adequate for most of my handguns and even some of my smaller rifles, providing sufficient workspace without being overly bulky.
I considered other mats, including some larger folding models with built-in compartments, but they seemed overkill for my needs. Ultimately, I chose the Scopecoat Counter and Range Mat for its simplicity, compact size, and reputation for durability. My first impression was that it was exactly what I was hoping for: a no-frills, functional surface that would protect my surfaces and make cleaning a bit more pleasant.
Real-World Testing: Putting Scopecoat Counter and Range Mat to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing took place at my local outdoor shooting range. After a particularly dusty day of shooting my AR-15, I laid the Scopecoat Counter and Range Mat on the tailgate of my truck to disassemble and clean the rifle. The mat immediately provided a clean, stable surface, preventing small parts from getting lost in the dirt and gravel.
The Neoprene material proved to be resistant to the solvents I used, wiping clean without any staining or degradation. Working on the tailgate was never comfortable, but the Scopecoat Counter and Range Mat definitely improved the situation. There were no major surprises; the mat performed exactly as advertised, giving me a safe and dependable workspace in a challenging environment.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Scopecoat Counter and Range Mat has held up exceptionally well. There are no signs of tearing or significant wear, despite being frequently exposed to harsh chemicals and abrasive surfaces. It continues to provide a reliable surface for cleaning everything from my handguns to my shotguns.
Maintaining the mat is incredibly easy. A quick wipe down with a damp cloth or mild solvent is usually all it takes to remove any residue. Compared to using paper towels or old rags, the Scopecoat Counter and Range Mat is far more effective and convenient, and my work surfaces are far more protected. It has become an indispensable part of my firearm maintenance routine.
