First Impressions of Savior Equipment Apollo Electronic Sound Suppressor
Electronic sound suppression has become increasingly crucial for anyone spending time around firearms or in noisy environments. The Savior Equipment Apollo Electronic Sound Suppressor promises to deliver both hearing protection and enhanced environmental awareness at an affordable price point. My interest was piqued by the combination of active sound compression and a compact design, making it potentially ideal for range days and tactical training.
I’ve always struggled finding electronic hearing protection that balances effectiveness, comfort, and affordability. Many options either fall short on noise reduction, are bulky and uncomfortable, or cost a small fortune. I was primarily looking for a set of electronic earmuffs that wouldn’t break the bank, offered decent noise reduction, and were comfortable enough to wear for extended periods at the range.
Unboxing the Savior Equipment Apollo Electronic Sound Suppressor, I was initially impressed by its compact, collapsible design. The build quality seemed reasonable for the price, with stainless steel and mesh construction. The inclusion of gel ear pads was a welcome sight, suggesting a focus on comfort.
Compared to pricier Howard Leight Impact Sport or Peltor ComTac series, the Savior Equipment Apollo Electronic Sound Suppressor felt slightly less robust. However, the significant price difference made it an attractive alternative, especially if its performance held up. I picked this hoping for similar functionality at a fraction of the cost. My first impression was cautiously optimistic; a blend of excitement and a little skepticism regarding the build quality relative to the price.
Real-World Testing: Putting Savior Equipment Apollo Electronic Sound Suppressor to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground for the Savior Equipment Apollo Electronic Sound Suppressor was a busy outdoor shooting range. I subjected them to a variety of firearms, from .22LR rifles to 12-gauge shotguns. They were used in moderately warm, dry conditions.
The Savior Equipment Apollo Electronic Sound Suppressor performed surprisingly well at dampening the harshness of gunfire. The active sound compression noticeably reduced the impact of loud shots, allowing for clearer communication and situational awareness. I needed a brief adjustment period to familiarize myself with the volume control for environmental sounds.
Initially, I noticed a slight buzzing sound from the electronics when the amplification was at its highest setting. However, this was only noticeable in very quiet environments. The earmuffs provided a decent level of comfort, but the gel pads became slightly warm after prolonged use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use, the Savior Equipment Apollo Electronic Sound Suppressor continues to function as expected. The durability is holding up well, with no significant signs of wear and tear on the stainless steel and mesh construction. Cleaning involves wiping down the ear pads and exterior with a damp cloth after each use; a simple and straightforward process.
Compared to my older passive earmuffs, the Savior Equipment Apollo Electronic Sound Suppressor offers a dramatically improved experience. It allows me to clearly hear range commands and conversations while still providing ample hearing protection. While not on par with top-tier electronic hearing protection, the Savior Equipment Apollo Electronic Sound Suppressor definitely outperforms its price point, providing solid value and consistent performance.
