Let’s Dive into Safariland ALS Tactical Thigh Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left 6355-9192-542
The Safariland ALS Tactical Thigh Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left 6355-9192-542 is more than just a piece of gear; it’s a vital extension of your capabilities in the field. From Safariland, a name synonymous with quality and innovation in the law enforcement and military communities, this holster offers a blend of security, accessibility, and comfort that’s crucial when every second counts. Its standout feature, the Automatic Locking System (ALS), ensures your sidearm remains secure until you need it, while the foliage green STX finish offers a low-profile aesthetic suitable for various environments.
My need for this particular holster arose from a desire for a more secure and readily accessible carry option during tactical training exercises. I was tired of standard belt holsters that felt cumbersome and restricted movement during dynamic drills. I wanted a thigh holster that wouldn’t shift or bounce while running, provided a quick draw, and most importantly, kept my firearm secure.
Upon unboxing, I was immediately impressed by the robust construction and the tactile feel of the SafariLaminate material. The holster felt solid, yet surprisingly lightweight, suggesting a good balance between durability and comfort. The foliage green color was exactly as pictured, a muted and practical tone that wouldn’t draw undue attention.
Compared to some generic nylon thigh holsters I’ve used in the past, the Safariland stood out like a premium tool versus a disposable gadget. I also considered the Blackhawk! Serpa thigh holster, but the ALS retention system of the Safariland seemed more secure and intuitive to me. The Blade-Tech WRS Level II Duty Holster was another contender, but its belt attachment system didn’t offer the same freedom of movement as a dedicated thigh rig.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. I was excited about the potential this holster offered, but also aware that the true test would be in its performance under pressure in real-world scenarios. Would it live up to the Safariland name, or would it be another piece of kit gathering dust in the gear closet?
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland ALS Tactical Thigh Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left 6355-9192-542 to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial field test of the Safariland ALS Tactical Thigh Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left 6355-9192-542 took place at a local shooting range, followed by a force-on-force training exercise in a mock urban environment. I wanted to evaluate its performance under both controlled and dynamic conditions. The weather was mild and dry during the range session, allowing for a straightforward assessment of the draw stroke and retention.
The ALS system proved remarkably intuitive; once I got the hang of the release, the draw was smooth and efficient. The holster remained stable on my thigh, even during rapid movement drills. There were no immediate issues, though I did notice the initial stiffness of the leg straps, which required some adjustment to achieve a comfortable fit.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of consistent use, including multiple training sessions in varying weather conditions, the Safariland holster has proven to be a reliable and durable piece of gear. It has weathered light rain and dusty environments without any noticeable degradation in performance. The SafariLaminate material has held up well, showing no signs of cracking or warping.
Cleaning and maintaining the holster is simple; a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove dirt and debris. Compared to previous holsters I’ve used, the Safariland requires significantly less maintenance and has demonstrated superior resistance to wear and tear. It outperforms my previous Kydex holster in terms of comfort and stability, and surpasses nylon alternatives in durability and retention.
