Let’s Dive into Safariland ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Right 6305-920-131
The Safariland ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Right 6305-920-131 is a purpose-built, level III retention holster designed for tactical operators and law enforcement professionals. This holster, manufactured by the reputable Safariland, combines the proven Automatic Locking System (ALS) with a rugged leg harness for secure weapon retention and comfortable carry. Its sleek STX Tactical Black finish provides a low-profile aesthetic, while its robust construction ensures durability in demanding environments.
For years, I struggled with finding a duty holster that balanced security, speed, and comfort during long patrols. Many holsters I tried were either too bulky, difficult to draw from under pressure, or simply didn’t offer enough retention for dynamic situations. I was specifically seeking a leg holster to reduce the load on my duty belt and improve my draw speed.
The initial unboxing experience was positive. The Safariland holster felt solid and well-constructed, with no obvious manufacturing defects. The STX Tactical finish appeared to be durable and resistant to scratches.
Compared to my previous Blackhawk! Serpa leg holster and a generic nylon drop-leg platform, the Safariland stood out due to its superior retention system and more streamlined design. The ALS mechanism felt more secure than the Serpa’s button release, and the Safariland‘s rigid construction provided better stability compared to the flimsy nylon platform. I chose the Safariland because of its reputation for reliability and the added layer of security offered by the ALS system.
I was immediately impressed by the build quality and the intuitive design of the retention system. While I knew there would be a learning curve associated with mastering the ALS draw, I was excited to put the Safariland ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Right 6305-920-131 to the test and see if it lived up to its reputation.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Right 6305-920-131 to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing took place at an outdoor shooting range and during a force-on-force training exercise. I focused on practicing smooth, efficient draws from various positions. The holster performed exceptionally well in dry conditions.
During the training exercise, which involved simulated close-quarters combat in a dusty environment, the Safariland ALS Tactical Holster maintained its functionality. The ALS system didn’t fail or gum up even with a considerable amount of dust exposure. The draw stroke was smooth and consistent after some practice.
The initial draw felt a bit unnatural, requiring a conscious effort to deactivate the ALS lever. However, after about an hour of repetitions, the motion became ingrained, and the draw speed significantly improved. There were no malfunctions, accidental discharges, or issues with the quick-release leg harness.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Safariland ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness has proven to be remarkably durable and reliable. There are only minor signs of wear on the STX Tactical finish, primarily around the contact points with the firearm. The ALS mechanism continues to function flawlessly.
The holster has held up exceptionally well to the rigors of daily carry and frequent training. I’ve experienced no issues with the leg harness loosening or the holster shifting position during dynamic movements. Maintenance is simple; I periodically wipe down the holster with a damp cloth and apply a small amount of silicone lubricant to the ALS mechanism.
The Safariland ALS Tactical Holster is significantly better than any of the previous duty holsters I’ve used. Its superior retention, durability, and comfortable carry make it a worthwhile investment for anyone who relies on their firearm for professional or personal protection. The secure retention and ease of draw quickly became a non-negotiable requirement for any future holsters I consider.
