Let’s Dive into Safariland ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Left 6305-1972-132
The Safariland ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Left 6305-1972-132 is more than just a holster; it’s a complete weapon retention and carry system designed for professionals who demand speed, security, and comfort. This left-handed model, finished in STX Tactical Black, combines Safariland‘s renowned Automatic Locking System (ALS) with a robust leg harness, offering a blend of tactical efficiency and ergonomic design. Having spent years working in environments where a secure and readily accessible sidearm is paramount, I was eager to evaluate how this holster stacks up against the demands of real-world use.
I sought this particular holster to address a growing need for a more secure and accessible carry method when operating in dynamic environments. My previous holster lacked a robust retention system, causing concern during close-quarters training.
The initial impression upon unboxing was one of solid, dependable construction. The materials felt durable, and the STX Tactical Black finish appeared resistant to scuffs and abrasions. Its weight was reassuring, indicating a focus on quality components, yet not excessively heavy to hinder movement.
Compared to other leg holsters I’ve used, such as the Blackhawk! Serpa Level 3 Tactical Holster and the Bianchi M12 Universal Military Holster, the Safariland ALS stood out due to its intuitive locking mechanism and adjustable leg harness. I chose this model for the Safariland reputation for reliability, the ALS’s ease of use, and the quick-release leg harness. My first impression was excitement – this looked like a serious piece of kit designed to perform.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Left 6305-1972-132 to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground was a force-on-force training exercise simulating urban patrol scenarios. This environment allowed me to assess the holster’s performance under pressure. The ALS proved remarkably intuitive, allowing for a smooth, natural draw stroke with minimal training.
The holster maintained a secure grip on my H&K P2000, even during dynamic movements like sprinting and grappling. I also tested it during simulated rainy conditions, and the holster retained its grip and functionality without any slippage. Getting used to the ALS thumb release took a few repetitions, but soon became second nature. A minor initial issue was adjusting the leg straps for optimal comfort; however, once dialed in, the fit was perfect.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Safariland ALS Tactical Holster has proven incredibly durable. There are no significant signs of wear and tear, even with repeated use in demanding conditions.
Cleaning is straightforward, requiring only a wipe down with a damp cloth and occasional lubrication of the ALS mechanism. It definitely outperforms other holsters I’ve used in terms of retention, draw speed, and overall durability.
