Let’s Dive into Safariland 7355RDS 7TS ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick-Release Leg Strap
The Safariland 7355RDS 7TS ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick-Release Leg Strap is a purpose-built holster designed for professionals and serious enthusiasts who require a secure, reliable, and rapidly accessible weapon platform, especially when running a red dot sight. Safariland, a name synonymous with duty gear excellence, delivers on their reputation with this holster by seamlessly integrating their Automatic Locking System (ALS) with a rugged, optic-ready design. This drop-leg platform ensures a smooth draw, unparalleled retention, and the adaptability needed in dynamic tactical environments.
As a gear specialist with over a decade in the field, I was searching for a holster solution that could accommodate my Glock 17 equipped with a Trijicon RMR while providing a secure and stable platform for tactical drills. Standard holsters often fail to properly secure an optic-mounted pistol or lack the rigidity needed for demanding use. This led me to the Safariland 7355RDS 7TS ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick-Release Leg Strap.
Upon unboxing, the first thing I noticed was the robust construction. The SafariSeven nylon blend felt incredibly durable, and the overall design appeared well-thought-out. The holster felt lightweight, especially considering its size and intended purpose, which was a definite plus.
I was initially considering the Blackhawk! Serpa Level 3 Tactical Holster and the G-Code SOC Holster. The Blackhawk! felt bulky and the Serpa’s retention system has been a subject of debate in the tactical community. The G-Code SOC, while highly modular, didn’t seem to offer the same level of positive retention as the Safariland ALS system.
My initial excitement stemmed from finally finding a holster that appeared to balance security, accessibility, and comfort, specifically designed for red dot-equipped pistols. I was eager to put it to the test and see if it lived up to the hype.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 7355RDS 7TS ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick-Release Leg Strap to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground was the local shooting range, where I ran various drills focusing on drawing, target acquisition, and re-holstering under simulated stress. The holster performed exceptionally well in dry conditions. The ALS system was intuitive, allowing for a smooth, straight-up draw with minimal effort once deactivated.
I also subjected the holster to some wet drills by spraying it down with water to simulate rain or submersion. The SafariSeven material repelled water effectively, and the internal stand-off surfaces kept moisture away from the firearm, preventing any issues with the draw or re-holstering. The Safariland 7355RDS 7TS ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick-Release Leg Strap inspires confidence.
The only minor adjustment needed was familiarizing myself with the ALS release lever placement, which required a slight change in my grip during the draw stroke. After a few practice repetitions, however, it became second nature.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, including weekly range sessions and a two-day tactical training course, the Safariland 7355RDS 7TS ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick-Release Leg Strap has proven to be exceptionally durable. I haven’t observed any significant signs of wear and tear. The SafariSeven material is incredibly resistant to scratches and abrasions.
Maintenance is straightforward. A simple wipe-down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove dirt and grime. I occasionally apply a silicone-based lubricant to the ALS mechanism to ensure smooth operation.
Previously, I had used a standard Kydex holster on a thigh rig, which often felt unstable and caused discomfort during extended periods of movement. The Safariland system is far superior in terms of stability and comfort, thanks to the double leg strap and well-designed leg shroud. It noticeably outperforms previous solutions.
