First Impressions of Safariland 6360rds – Als/sls Mid-ride, Duty Rated Level Iii Retention Holster 6360RDS-832-481-CUBL
The Safariland 6360rds – Als/sls Mid-ride, Duty Rated Level Iii Retention Holster 6360RDS-832-481-CUBL promises Level III retention with red dot sight compatibility, a combination that addresses the evolving needs of law enforcement and tactical operators. From the Safariland name alone, I anticipated a robust, reliable holster built to withstand the rigors of daily duty. My primary need was a secure, yet accessible holster for my duty weapon equipped with a red dot, something that many older holsters simply couldn’t accommodate.
The holster arrived in standard Safariland packaging, nothing flashy, but functional. Lifting it out, the immediate impression was solid and well-constructed; the STX Tactical finish gave it a professional and durable feel. I’ve previously used the Safariland 6378 ALS and the Blackhawk Serpa Level 3, both reputable holsters, but neither offered the specific red dot compatibility and Level III retention I required now; the Safariland 6360rds appeared to bridge that gap perfectly.
My initial excitement was high, bordering on relief. Finally, a holster that seemed purpose-built for the modern duty pistol, not a modified afterthought. The fit and finish looked excellent right out of the box.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6360rds – Als/sls Mid-ride, Duty Rated Level Iii Retention Holster 6360RDS-832-481-CUBL to the Test
First Use Experience
My first range trip with the Safariland 6360rds was enlightening. I ran several drills focusing on drawing speed, re-holstering under pressure, and retention attempts by a training partner. The Automatic Locking System (ALS) engaged smoothly upon holstering, providing a reassuring click; the Self Locking System (SLS) hood was intuitive to disengage, even with gloved hands.
It was a hot, humid day, and while the STX Tactical finish did get a bit slick with sweat, it didn’t compromise my grip or draw. The mid-ride height felt comfortable and allowed for a natural draw stroke. No malfunctions or snags occurred during hundreds of repetitions.
Extended Use & Reliability
After three months of continuous duty use, the Safariland 6360rds has proven to be a reliable and durable piece of gear. There are minor scuff marks on the STX Tactical finish, but no significant wear or damage to the holster body or locking mechanisms. Regular cleaning with a damp cloth has kept it functioning smoothly.
Compared to my older duty holsters, the Safariland 6360rds outperforms them significantly in terms of retention, speed of draw (once mastered), and red dot compatibility. The peace of mind knowing my weapon is secure yet readily accessible is invaluable. This holster has exceeded my expectations.

Performance & Functionality
The Safariland 6360rds performs its primary job – securing and providing quick access to a firearm – exceptionally well. The draw stroke is fluid and consistent after practice, and the retention system provides confidence in high-risk situations. Design & Ergonomics
The Safariland 6360rds boasts a robust and well-thought-out design. The SafariSeven™ nylon blend is lightweight yet incredibly strong, offering excellent impact resistance. The mid-ride height provides a comfortable and natural draw position.
The holster’s ergonomic design allows for a full firing grip before the weapon is even clear of the holster. The ALS and SLS levers are strategically placed for easy manipulation without compromising the grip. This design minimizes the learning curve for officers transitioning from other Safariland holsters.
Durability & Maintenance
The Safariland 6360rds is built to last, as evidenced by its durable construction and high-quality materials. The SafariSeven™ nylon blend is resistant to scratches, abrasions, and solvents. Minimal maintenance is required; regular cleaning with a damp cloth is sufficient to keep it in top condition.
