Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6355 ALS Tactical Thigh Holster – STX Black, Right Hand 6355-97-131 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first experience with the Safariland 6355 was at the shooting range, where I focused on drawing and re-holstering drills. I wanted to get a feel for the ALS mechanism under controlled conditions. The holster performed admirably, offering a smooth and consistent draw stroke once the ALS was disengaged.
During a simulated tactical exercise in slightly damp conditions, the STX Black finish provided a secure grip, even with wet hands. It took a few repetitions to become fully accustomed to the ALS, but I quickly developed a natural and fluid motion. There were no major issues, although I did notice that the initial adjustment of the leg straps required some fine-tuning.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Safariland 6355 has proven to be a reliable and durable piece of equipment. There are only minor signs of wear, primarily on the STX Black finish where it makes contact with my duty belt. The holster continues to function flawlessly, with the ALS engaging and disengaging smoothly every time.
Maintenance is straightforward; I simply wipe down the holster with a damp cloth and apply a silicone-based lubricant to the ALS mechanism periodically. Compared to my previous holster (a generic nylon thigh holster), the Safariland 6355 offers superior retention, comfort, and durability. It has exceeded my expectations in every aspect.
