What Makes Safariland 6354 ALS, H&K VP9, Holster, Black, – 1 out of 20 models Stand Out?
The Safariland 6354 ALS, H&K VP9, Holster, Black, – 1 out of 20 models is more than just a holster; it’s a duty-grade piece of equipment designed for professionals who demand speed, security, and reliability. Built by Safariland, a name synonymous with quality in the law enforcement and military communities, this holster offers a unique blend of the Automatic Locking System (ALS) with a streamlined design. Its compatibility with the H&K VP9 makes it a top choice for those who carry this popular pistol.
My search for the ideal holster stemmed from a need for enhanced retention during dynamic training scenarios. Standard friction holsters often proved inadequate when subjected to rigorous movement and potential weapon takeaways. I needed a holster that could provide a secure hold without sacrificing speed of draw – the Safariland 6354 ALS seemed like the perfect solution.
Unboxing the Safariland 6354 ALS was a reassuring experience. The holster felt solid and well-constructed, with the black finish exhibiting a professional, non-reflective appearance. The materials felt robust, indicating a build quality that could withstand daily use and abuse.
Compared to some basic Kydex holsters I’ve used in the past, the Safariland offered a clearly superior level of retention and security. While open-top competition holsters prioritize speed, they lack the active retention features crucial for duty carry. Ultimately, I chose the Safariland 6354 ALS because it struck the perfect balance between speed, security, and durability for my specific needs.
My first impression was excitement tempered with a touch of anticipation. The ALS system seemed intuitive, but I knew that proper training and familiarization would be essential to master it. I was eager to put it through its paces and see if it lived up to the Safariland reputation.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6354 ALS, H&K VP9, Holster, Black, – 1 out of 20 models to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground for the Safariland 6354 ALS was at a local shooting range during a defensive pistol course. The course involved various drills that simulated real-world scenarios, including drawing under pressure and moving while engaging targets. The conditions were relatively dry and temperate, ideal for getting accustomed to the holster.
The Safariland 6354 ALS performed admirably during this initial session. The ALS system provided a secure hold on my VP9, even during rapid movements and changes of position. Drawing the pistol required a deliberate, yet fluid, motion – deactivating the ALS with my thumb as I established my grip.
Initially, there was a slight learning curve in mastering the draw stroke with the ALS. However, after a few repetitions, the movement became natural and intuitive. The holster held the weapon securely, even during vigorous movements.
After my first use, I noticed a small amount of wear on the inside of the holster, but this was expected and did not affect the functionality.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Safariland 6354 ALS has proven to be a reliable and durable piece of gear. I’ve subjected it to a variety of conditions, from hot and humid range days to cold and wet outdoor training exercises. The holster has consistently maintained its functionality and structural integrity.
The black finish has held up well, with only minor scuff marks appearing over time. The ALS system continues to function smoothly and securely, providing consistent retention and ease of draw. Regular cleaning and lubrication have been essential to maintaining the holster’s performance.
Compared to my previous holster, the Safariland 6354 ALS outperforms it significantly in terms of retention, durability, and overall reliability. My previous holster became loose and started to show wear after only a few months. This Safariland has not.
