Let’s Dive into Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6305-74-542
The Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6305-74-542 is more than just a holster; it’s a complete system designed for tactical professionals who demand security, speed, and comfort. From the ALS (Automatic Locking System) to the quick-release leg harness, this holster is built for serious use in challenging environments. The STX Foliage Green finish provides excellent camouflage in a variety of terrains, and the left-hand configuration ensures a perfect fit for left-handed shooters.
My search for the perfect tactical holster led me to the Safariland 6305. I needed a reliable and secure holster that could withstand the rigors of training and real-world operations. The promise of enhanced security via the ALS system and the comfortable leg harness were the deciding factors.
Unboxing the Safariland 6305 was impressive. The build quality was immediately apparent, from the rugged SAFARILAMINATE construction to the robust stitching and hardware. The holster felt substantial but not overly heavy, and the STX Foliage Green finish looked sharp and professional.
Compared to other level III retention holsters I’ve used, like the Blackhawk! Serpa and the Galco Miami Classic, the Safariland 6305 offers a superior balance of security and ease of access. While the Serpa relies on a finger release that can be prone to accidental activation under stress, and the Miami Classic sacrifices some security for concealability, the ALS system offers a more intuitive and reliable draw stroke. My initial excitement upon receiving the Safariland 6305 was quickly validated by its apparent quality and design.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6305-74-542 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first experience with the Safariland 6305 was at an outdoor shooting range during a force-on-force training exercise. I used it in conjunction with my Sig Sauer P229, which the holster is specifically designed to fit. The weather conditions were moderately warm and slightly dusty, typical for a California summer day.
The ALS system required a brief period of familiarization, but once I mastered the intuitive thumb release, drawing my weapon became both fast and secure. Even while moving and engaging targets, the holster kept my P229 firmly in place.
There were no major issues after the first use. However, I did notice that the leg straps needed some minor adjustments to achieve the perfect fit and prevent them from shifting during dynamic movements.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, including weekly range sessions and participation in advanced tactical training courses, the Safariland 6305 has proven to be exceptionally durable and reliable. There are no significant signs of wear and tear on the SAFARILAMINATE material or the leg harness.
The holster requires minimal maintenance. A simple wipe-down with a damp cloth after each use is usually sufficient to remove dust and debris.
In comparison to my previous experiences with cheaper nylon holsters that quickly degrade under stress, the Safariland 6305 has far exceeded my expectations. It’s a true testament to Safariland’s commitment to quality and performance.
