Let’s Dive into Safariland 6304 ALS Tactical Holster – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6304-2192-131
The Safariland 6304 ALS Tactical Holster – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6304-2192-131 is a serious piece of kit designed for professionals who demand secure weapon retention and rapid deployment. Manufactured by Safariland, a name synonymous with quality and innovation in law enforcement and military gear, this holster combines the proven Automatic Locking System (ALS) with a rugged leg shroud for exceptional tactical performance. Its reputation as a go-to choice for operators worldwide made it a must-try.
My need for the Safariland 6304 stemmed from a growing discomfort with standard belt holsters during extended field operations. The weight distribution and accessibility issues I experienced prompted me to explore a more specialized solution that offered both enhanced security and a more comfortable carry.
Unboxing the Safariland 6304 revealed a robust and purposeful design. The STX Tactical Black finish exudes professionalism, and the construction feels incredibly solid; I could immediately tell this wasn’t some cheap injection molded piece. The multiple adjustment points on the leg shroud and straps gave the impression of a highly customizable and adaptable platform, but it also looked like I’d need a few minutes to get it fitted just right.
Having previously used a Blackhawk Serpa and a Galco Miami Classic, I found the Safariland 6304’s retention system to be a significant upgrade. The ALS mechanism felt more secure and intuitive than the Serpa’s release button, while the leg shroud offered better weight distribution compared to the shoulder holster. I chose the Safariland 6304 for its superior security, stability, and modularity.
My first impression was overwhelmingly positive. The Safariland 6304 instilled confidence; it seemed like a holster that could withstand the rigors of duty while ensuring my weapon remained readily accessible. The anticipation to test it under realistic conditions was definitely high.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6304 ALS Tactical Holster – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6304-2192-131 to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Safariland 6304 at an outdoor shooting range during a tactical training session. The environment was dusty and the weather was hot, providing a challenging setting to evaluate the holster’s performance.
The ALS system worked flawlessly even with grit and grime present. Drawing and re-holstering became second nature after only a few repetitions; the straight-up draw motion felt natural and intuitive. The leg shroud provided exceptional stability, eliminating the unwanted swaying and shifting I’d experienced with belt-mounted holsters.
The only initial issue was adjusting the leg straps to achieve a comfortable and secure fit, which took a little experimentation. After dialing in the adjustments, the Safariland 6304 performed admirably with no malfunctions.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use during training exercises and field operations, the Safariland 6304 has proven to be incredibly reliable. The STX Tactical Black finish shows minimal wear, even after repeated contact with gear and abrasive surfaces.
The holster has remained structurally sound with no signs of loosening or degradation. Maintenance is straightforward, consisting of occasional cleaning with a damp cloth and lubrication of the ALS mechanism. It has exceeded my expectations based on previous experiences with other tactical holsters that often show significant wear and tear after similar use.
