The Safariland 6304 ALS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6304-148-542 is more than just a holster; it’s a complete weapon retention system designed for the demanding needs of law enforcement, military, and serious tactical users. Manufactured by Safariland, a name synonymous with quality and innovation in the holster industry, this particular model boasts the renowned Automatic Locking System (ALS), combined with the SLS (Self Locking System) hood for unparalleled security.
As a left-handed shooter with over a decade of experience in tactical gear, I was searching for a holster that offered both speed and security, without compromising comfort or durability. I was consistently facing the challenge of finding a left-handed holster that could reliably secure my sidearm during rigorous training and potential real-world scenarios.
My first impression upon unboxing the Safariland 6304 ALS Tactical Holster was one of immediate quality. The STX Foliage Green finish is both durable and aesthetically pleasing, while the overall construction felt incredibly solid. The combination of the ALS and SLS retention systems gave me a sense of confidence that my weapon would remain secure, even under the most demanding conditions.
I considered other holsters like the Blackhawk! Serpa Level 3 Tactical Holster and the Blade-Tech WRS Level 2 Duty Holster. However, the Safariland‘s reputation for reliability, combined with the intuitive ALS system and the added security of the SLS hood, ultimately made it the clear winner. I was instantly excited to put this holster through its paces and see if it lived up to the hype.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6304 ALS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6304-148-542 to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground for the Safariland 6304 ALS Tactical Holster was at a local shooting range specializing in dynamic shooting drills. I focused on practicing rapid draws and re-holstering under simulated stress. The ALS system proved remarkably intuitive; with a natural thumb movement, the weapon was released smoothly and quickly, allowing for a fluid draw stroke.
I also subjected the holster to various environmental conditions, including simulated rain and dusty environments. The SAFARILAMINATE construction held up beautifully, protecting the handgun from the elements and ensuring consistent performance of the ALS and SLS mechanisms. There was a slight learning curve associated with deactivating both the ALS and SLS simultaneously, but after a few hours of practice, the process became second nature.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Safariland 6304 ALS Tactical Holster continues to perform exceptionally well. The holster shows minimal signs of wear and tear, a testament to the quality of the materials and construction. Regular cleaning with a damp cloth and occasional lubrication of the ALS mechanism has kept the holster functioning smoothly.
Compared to other holsters I’ve used in the past, the Safariland 6304 offers a superior combination of security, speed, and durability. Other holsters might excel in one area or another, but the Safariland strikes an ideal balance, making it my go-to choice for tactical applications. It has outperformed my expectations in terms of both reliability and comfort.
