Let’s Dive into Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6287-210-131
The Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster isn’t just another piece of gear; it’s a statement. It whispers experience, reliability, and a commitment to quality that I’ve come to expect from Safariland after a decade immersed in the world of tactical equipment. This particular model, finished in STX Tactical Black and designed for right-handed users (6287-210-131), promises secure concealment with the trusted SLS (Self Locking System).
I needed a holster that could maintain a low profile while still offering rapid access to my sidearm. My previous holster, a generic nylon model, lacked the positive retention I required for off-duty carry and range days. I was looking for something more robust, offering greater security and a more professional appearance.
The Safariland 6287 arrived in a no-nonsense package, revealing a holster with a reassuring heft and a clean, tactical aesthetic. The STX Tactical Black finish felt rugged to the touch, and the overall construction exuded quality. It felt like a tool, not a toy.
Compared to the Blackhawk Serpa and the Galco Concealable Belt Holster, the Safariland stood out due to its SLS retention system. While the Serpa offers a similar active retention mechanism, I’ve always found the Safariland SLS to be more intuitive and reliable under stress. The Galco, while a fine leather option, simply didn’t provide the level of security I needed for my specific application.
My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. I was eager to test the holster’s concealability and draw speed, but more importantly, I wanted to see if it lived up to the Safariland name when it came to retention and durability. This wasn’t just about carrying a firearm; it was about carrying it with confidence.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6287-210-131 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test of the Safariland 6287 was at an outdoor shooting range during a defensive pistol training course. The temperature was moderate, but the air was thick with humidity, a perfect proving ground for grip and draw reliability. I focused on drawing from concealment and engaging targets at various distances.
The holster performed flawlessly, even with sweaty hands. The SLS hood released smoothly with each draw, and the slightly forward cant allowed for a natural and efficient presentation of the firearm. There were no fumbles or hang-ups, and the pistol locked securely back into place after each drill.
The only initial concern was the break-in period. The SLS hood was a bit stiff at first, requiring a firm push to re-engage. However, this quickly resolved itself after a few hours of practice draws.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, including weekly range trips and occasional off-duty carry, the Safariland 6287 has proven to be exceptionally durable. The STX Tactical finish shows no signs of wear, and the holster retains its shape and rigidity. The SLS mechanism continues to function smoothly and reliably.
Maintenance is minimal. A quick wipe down with a damp cloth after each range session is all that’s needed to keep the holster clean and functioning optimally. Compared to my previous leather holsters, which required regular conditioning and break-in periods, the Safariland is virtually maintenance-free.
The Safariland 6287 significantly outperforms my previous holsters in terms of retention, concealability, and overall durability. It has become my go-to holster for any situation where I need a reliable and discreet carry option. It’s a far cry from the cheap nylon holster it replaced.
