Let’s Dive into Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – Plain Black, Right Hand 6287-29111-61
The Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – Plain Black, Right Hand 6287-29111-61 represents a commitment to security and practicality in the realm of concealed carry. Safariland is a name synonymous with law enforcement and tactical gear, and this holster aims to bring that professional-grade reliability to the civilian market. The standout feature is undoubtedly the Self Locking System (SLS), a rotating hood design meant to deter unauthorized access, blending retention with a surprisingly smooth draw.
I’ve spent years searching for the perfect balance between concealment, retention, and draw speed. My primary concealed carry piece, a Heckler & Koch USP Compact, often felt bulky and cumbersome with other holsters. I needed something that would keep the weapon secure during everyday activities but allow for rapid deployment when needed most.
Upon unboxing the Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – Plain Black, Right Hand 6287-29111-61, I immediately noticed the solid construction and the familiar feel of Safariland‘s SafariLaminate material. The holster felt substantial without being overly heavy, and the plain black finish provided a low-profile appearance. The SLS hood rotated smoothly, and the overall build quality instilled confidence.
Compared to a Blackhawk Serpa holster and a generic Kydex holster I’ve used previously, the Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – Plain Black, Right Hand 6287-29111-61 immediately stood out. The Serpa, while offering quick draw, lacked the security I desired, and the Kydex holster, though slim, didn’t offer any active retention. I picked the Safariland model for its reputation and the promise of a superior retention system.
My first impression was a mix of excitement and cautious optimism. The quality was evident, but I was eager to see how the SLS system would perform under real-world conditions. I was hoping it would live up to its promise of security and ease of use, a combination many holsters struggle to achieve.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – Plain Black, Right Hand 6287-29111-61 to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground for the Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – Plain Black, Right Hand 6287-29111-61 was the local shooting range. I focused on drawing and re-holstering drills to get a feel for the SLS system. I also wore it during a moderately active hike to assess its comfort and stability.
The holster performed exceptionally well, even in the somewhat humid range environment. The SLS system proved intuitive after just a few practice draws; the rotating hood disengaged smoothly with a natural thumb motion. There were no unexpected snags or delays.
My only minor issue was adjusting to the slight forward cant of the holster. It positioned the weapon perfectly for a cross-draw motion, which required a slight adjustment from my usual straight draw technique. However, this was easily overcome with a bit of practice.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of daily use, the Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – Plain Black, Right Hand 6287-29111-61 has proven to be a reliable and durable companion. I’ve worn it during various activities, including running errands, attending meetings, and even some light yard work. It remained secure and comfortable throughout.
Despite the constant friction and occasional bumps, the SafariLaminate material shows virtually no signs of wear. The plain black finish has resisted scratches and scuffs, maintaining a professional appearance. The SLS mechanism continues to operate smoothly and reliably.
Cleaning the holster is remarkably simple; a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient. I’ve also applied a small amount of silicone lubricant to the SLS rotating hood to ensure optimal performance. Compared to previous holsters, the Safariland 6287 Concealment SLS Belt Holster – Plain Black, Right Hand 6287-29111-61 clearly outperforms them in both retention and durability.
