The Safariland 6287 Concealment Belt Holster, Right – 1 out of 123 models is a dedicated concealment holster from the renowned Safariland brand, known for its quality and reliability in the law enforcement and tactical communities. This holster distinguishes itself with its rotating hood design and focus on both weapon retention and comfortable concealment. I was looking for a holster that offered both high retention and excellent concealment for my everyday carry weapon. I needed something that would keep my firearm secure during active movement but also remain virtually invisible under clothing. The Safariland name kept coming up in my research.

Upon unboxing, the Safariland 6287 felt solid and well-constructed. The materials felt durable, and the finish was clean and professional. The build quality instilled confidence, suggesting it could withstand daily wear and tear.

I considered the Galco Gunleather Concealable Belt Holster and the Blackhawk! Serpa CQC Concealment Holster before settling on the Safariland 6287. I chose the Safariland for its enhanced retention system (SLS), which offered a higher level of security compared to the others, especially concerning potential weapon snatches.

My first impression was excitement mixed with anticipation. I was eager to test its concealment capabilities and assess how the SLS system would perform in real-world scenarios. Could this holster truly deliver both security and discretion?

Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6287 Concealment Belt Holster, Right – 1 out of 123 models to the Test

First Use Experience

I initially tested the Safariland 6287 at my local shooting range and during a few days of running errands around town, concealing it under a light jacket. I wanted to evaluate its comfort and draw speed in controlled and everyday environments. The weather was mild and dry during my initial testing.

The holster performed exceptionally well. It provided a secure and snug fit, keeping the firearm firmly in place during movement. The draw stroke, although requiring a slight learning curve with the rotating hood, became smooth and efficient after a few practice repetitions.

I initially struggled a bit with the SLS hood release, finding it less intuitive than a simple thumb break. However, after an hour or so of practice draws, it became second nature. The retention was so secure that I felt confident in my weapon’s security, even when bending over or running.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of consistent use, the Safariland 6287 has proven to be a reliable and durable concealment option. The finish has held up well, showing no signs of significant wear. The holster has retained its shape and structural integrity.

The Safariland 6287 shows only minor scuff marks from regular use. The adjustable tension device has maintained its setting, and the SLS hood continues to operate smoothly. Cleaning the holster is straightforward, requiring only a damp cloth and occasional lubrication of the rotating hood mechanism.

Compared to my previous concealment holsters, the Safariland 6287 surpasses them in terms of retention and build quality. While some other holsters may offer a slightly faster draw, the added security of the SLS system gives me greater peace of mind. It outperforms the others in the areas of security, durability and overall build.
