The Safariland 6280 Level II Retention, Mid-Ride Holster – STX Basket Weave, Right Hand 6280-09-481 is a duty holster designed for law enforcement and security professionals who require a secure and readily accessible sidearm. Manufactured by Safariland, a trusted name in the industry, this holster boasts Level II retention, a mid-ride height for comfortable carry, and an STX Basket Weave finish for a professional appearance. Its compatibility with popular revolvers like the Smith & Wesson Model 10 and Ruger Security Six makes it a versatile choice.
My need for a holster like this stemmed from my work as a security consultant requiring a secure and easily accessible way to carry a revolver. I needed something that offered a balance of retention, comfort, and professional appearance.
Upon unboxing, the Safariland 6280 impressed me with its robust construction and the quality of the STX Basket Weave finish. The holster felt substantial and well-made, inspiring confidence in its ability to withstand daily use.
Compared to the Bianchi Accumold Elite and the Uncle Mike’s Reflex Holster, the Safariland 6280 stood out due to its Level II retention and mid-ride design, which I felt offered a better balance of security and accessibility than the other two. The Bianchi focused more on concealment, while the Uncle Mike’s prioritized speed of draw.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism; the holster seemed well-designed, but I was eager to see how it performed in real-world scenarios.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6280 Level II Retention, Mid-Ride Holster – STX Basket Weave, Right Hand 6280-09-481 to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Safariland 6280 Level II Retention, Mid-Ride Holster – STX Basket Weave, Right Hand 6280-09-481 at a local shooting range during a firearms training session. The weather was mild and dry, providing ideal conditions for testing.
The holster performed admirably, providing secure retention while allowing for a smooth and relatively quick draw after disengaging the SLS (Self Locking System). The mid-ride height felt comfortable and didn’t interfere with my movement.
It took me a few draws to become fully accustomed to the SLS, but once I developed muscle memory, the process became intuitive. The only minor issue was that the initial break-in period made the SLS a bit stiff.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Safariland 6280 has proven to be a reliable and durable piece of gear. It’s held up well to daily wear and tear without any significant signs of damage.
The STX Basket Weave finish has resisted scratches and scuffs, maintaining its professional appearance. Regular cleaning with a damp cloth has been sufficient to keep the holster in good condition.
Compared to my previous experience with a cheaper nylon holster, the Safariland 6280 is a significant upgrade in terms of both durability and retention. The difference is night and day.
