Let’s Dive into Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Right Hand Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness 6005-73-561
The Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Right Hand Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness 6005-73-561 is more than just a holster; it’s a complete system designed for professionals who demand rapid deployment and unwavering security. Built by Safariland, a name synonymous with law enforcement and military gear, this holster combines their renowned Self Locking System (SLS) with a robust leg harness for optimal accessibility in tactical situations. This isn’t your everyday range holster; it’s a piece of mission-critical equipment.
I was searching for a holster system that offered both exceptional retention and the ability to quickly draw my sidearm while wearing tactical gear. I needed something that could withstand rigorous use and provide a secure platform for my Beretta 92 during training exercises and potential real-world scenarios. The Safariland 6005 seemed to be the perfect solution based on its reputation.
Upon unboxing, the first thing I noticed was the robust construction of the holster and harness. The SAFARILAMINATE material felt incredibly durable, and the quick-release buckles on the leg harness appeared well-made and reliable. The weight felt substantial, but not overly burdensome, indicating a solid build quality without sacrificing maneuverability.
I considered the Blackhawk! Serpa Level 3 Tactical Holster and the Galco Miami Classic II Shoulder Holster before ultimately deciding on the Safariland 6005. While the Serpa offered a similar level of retention, I was drawn to Safariland’s SLS system and the proven track record of their products. The Galco shoulder holster wasn’t quite right as it lacked the accessibility and tactical advantage of a thigh-mounted system.
My initial impression was excitement mixed with a bit of anticipation. I was eager to see how the Safariland 6005 would perform in a live-fire environment. The design looked promising, but the real test would be its ability to provide a smooth, reliable draw under pressure.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Right Hand Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness 6005-73-561 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first experience with the Safariland 6005 was at a local shooting range during a force-on-force training exercise. The exercise simulated various tactical scenarios, including building clearing and engagement of multiple targets. I tested the holster while wearing full tactical gear, including a plate carrier and duty belt.
The holster performed admirably in both wet and dry conditions, providing a secure grip on my Beretta 92 even when my hands were sweaty or covered in simulated mud. The SLS system was intuitive and easy to operate, allowing for a smooth and relatively quick draw. It took a few practice runs to master the motion, but after about an hour, it became second nature.
The only initial issue was adjusting the leg straps to achieve the perfect fit. The straps needed to be tightened and loosened several times to ensure the holster didn’t shift during movement, or restrict mobility. Once the straps were dialed in, the Safariland 6005 performed flawlessly.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use during training exercises and range sessions, the Safariland 6005 has proven to be exceptionally reliable. The holster shows minimal signs of wear and tear, despite being subjected to rigorous use in various environments. There are only minor scuff marks on the SAFARILAMINATE exterior.
The Safariland 6005 is easy to clean and maintain, requiring only a quick wipe down with a damp cloth after each use. The SLS mechanism remains smooth and reliable, and the quick-release buckles on the leg harness continue to function without issue. It outperforms any other tactical holster I’ve used.
Compared to previous experiences with other brands, the Safariland 6005 stands out for its superior durability and retention capabilities. The SLS system provides a level of security that I haven’t found in other holsters, and the robust construction gives me confidence that it will withstand even the most demanding conditions. This is far better than my old nylon holster.
