Let’s Dive into Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6005-719-121
The Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6005-719-121 is not just another holster; it’s a statement. It shouts readiness, reliability, and refined tactical expertise. Designed by Safariland, a name synonymous with law enforcement and military-grade gear, this holster promises a secure and accessible carry solution for your sidearm, specifically tailored for right-handed users and compatible with the Smith & Wesson M&P 9C & .40C with thumb safety. The integration of the SLS (Self Locking System), quick-release leg harness, and durable STX Tactical Black finish makes this a compelling option for professionals and serious enthusiasts alike.
My search for the perfect holster had always been a quest for uncompromising security and rapid deployment. I was looking for a holster system that could withstand the rigors of active duty while still allowing for a smooth, intuitive draw under pressure. Several holsters promised these features, but Safariland’s reputation for quality and innovation steered me toward the 6005 SLS.
The unboxing experience was immediately reassuring. The holster felt substantial in hand, its weight suggesting durability without being cumbersome. The STX Tactical Black finish provided a professional, low-profile aesthetic, and the molded SAFARILAMINATE construction felt incredibly robust.
I considered the Blackhawk! Serpa Level 3 Tactical Holster and the Galco Miami Classic II Shoulder System before settling on the Safariland 6005 SLS. The Serpa’s release mechanism felt less secure and the shoulder system wasn’t ideal for dynamic movement. The Safariland offered the best balance of retention, accessibility, and mobility in a leg-mounted platform.
My initial impression was one of excitement tempered with a healthy dose of expectation. Knowing Safariland’s legacy, I anticipated a top-tier product, and the initial feel of the 6005 SLS suggested it would deliver. It felt purpose-built, like a tool designed by professionals for professionals.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6005-719-121 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first serious test of the Safariland 6005 SLS was at an intensive, week-long tactical training course at a specialized firearms training facility. The course involved various drills, including rapid target acquisition, dynamic movement, and simulated scenarios in diverse environments. The 6005 SLS was put through its paces in both dry and humid conditions, as well as on varied terrain.
The holster performed exceptionally well, maintaining a secure hold on my Smith & Wesson M&P 9C throughout the demanding activities. The SLS hood system was initially stiff, requiring a few practice draws to become fluid, but the single-motion release quickly became second nature. The quick-release leg harness proved invaluable for adjusting the holster’s position for optimal comfort and accessibility, and it remained stable and secure even during sprints and simulated room clearing.
There were no major issues during the initial testing phase, although I did notice some minor chafing on my thigh after extended periods of wear. This was easily remedied by adjusting the leg straps and ensuring proper positioning of the holster.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Safariland 6005 SLS has proven to be a remarkably reliable piece of kit. The STX Tactical Black finish has held up well, showing minimal signs of wear despite frequent use and exposure to abrasive surfaces. The SAFARILAMINATE construction has maintained its rigidity and shape, ensuring a consistent and secure fit for my firearm.
Maintenance has been minimal, primarily consisting of wiping down the holster with a damp cloth and occasionally applying a silicone-based lubricant to the SLS mechanism. The holster has shown no signs of degradation or malfunction, attesting to its robust construction and quality materials. Compared to a previous nylon thigh holster I owned, the Safariland 6005 SLS far surpasses it in terms of retention, durability, and overall comfort.
