The Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Left Hand 6005-719-122 isn’t just another holster; it’s a commitment to security, speed, and operational efficiency. Manufactured by Safariland, a name synonymous with law enforcement and military-grade gear, this holster promises a secure carry with rapid deployment capabilities for left-handed shooters. Its standout feature is the SLS (Self Locking System), designed to thwart weapon takeaways while allowing for a smooth, single-motion draw. It’s a piece of kit that whispers confidence, demanding a closer look.
For years, I’ve relied on various holster systems, each with its strengths and weaknesses, but I was looking for a system that offered superior retention without sacrificing draw speed. I needed a holster that could withstand the rigors of tactical training and real-world deployment, while securely retaining my sidearm. The Safariland 6005 seemed to tick all the boxes.

I considered a few other options, including the Blackhawk! Serpa Level 3 Tactical Holster and the Galco Miami Classic II shoulder holster. However, the Safariland 6005’s SLS system and reputation for unmatched retention ultimately won me over. Plus, the leg harness configuration suited my need for a lower, easily accessible draw point.

First Use Experience
My initial testing ground was a local shooting range that offered force-on-force training scenarios. This allowed me to simulate real-world stress and weapon-retention attempts while practicing my draw stroke. The Safariland 6005 was put through its paces in varying weather conditions, from dry and dusty to light rain.
The SLS system initially required a bit of getting used to. However, after a few practice draws, the motion became fluid and intuitive. The holster performed exceptionally well, even when wet, with the SLS providing consistent and reliable retention.
I didn’t experience any significant issues during my first range session. The only minor adjustment needed was tightening the leg straps to prevent excessive movement during dynamic drills. The holster provided excellent firearm retention in demanding scenarios.

After several months of consistent use in training and operational environments, the Safariland 6005 has proven its durability and reliability. The STX Tactical Black finish has held up well, showing only minor signs of wear in high-friction areas. The harness straps and buckles remain sturdy and functional.
The holster has required minimal maintenance beyond occasional cleaning with a damp cloth and lubricating the SLS mechanism.
