The Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Left Hand 6005-141-122 is more than just a holster; it’s a crucial piece of equipment for professionals and serious enthusiasts. Made by Safariland, a name synonymous with quality and durability in the law enforcement and military communities, this holster offers secure weapon retention and rapid deployment.
For over a decade, I’ve been working with tactical gear, constantly seeking solutions that blend security, accessibility, and comfort. My search always circles back to the necessity of a reliable holster, particularly for those demanding situations where every second counts. The Safariland 6005 SLS promised a balance of these features, specifically designed for left-handed users like myself.
My first impression was dominated by the solid construction and the distinct STX Tactical Black finish. The material felt incredibly robust, suggesting it could withstand the rigors of field use. It felt purpose-built, not like a flimsy, mass-produced afterthought.
Compared to other leg holsters I’ve used, such as those from Blackhawk and Uncle Mike’s, the Safariland 6005 SLS stood out for its advanced retention system and quick-release leg harness. I chose this holster because I needed something that offered more than just basic retention; I needed a system that would actively prevent unauthorized access to my weapon while still allowing for a fluid draw when necessary. The quick-release leg harness was also a major selling point, offering the ability to quickly detach the holster in emergency situations or when transitioning to non-tactical environments.
My initial feeling was one of cautious optimism. It looked the part, but I knew the true test would come in the field, under pressure, and after prolonged use. I was eager to see if it lived up to the hype surrounding the Safariland name.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Left Hand 6005-141-122 to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Safariland 6005 SLS at an outdoor shooting range during a tactical training exercise. The exercise simulated a high-stress environment, requiring rapid target acquisition and weapon deployment. The weather was hot and dusty, conditions that often test the functionality of gear.
The holster performed admirably; the SLS (Self Locking System) proved intuitive and reliable, allowing for a smooth, single-motion draw. Even with sweaty hands and layers of tactical clothing, I was able to consistently draw my weapon quickly and efficiently. There were no snags or malfunctions.
There was a slight learning curve associated with mastering the SLS release while under pressure, but after a few repetitions, it became second nature. The quick-release leg harness was also a welcome feature, allowing me to quickly remove the holster when transitioning to a more relaxed environment between drills.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, including weekly range sessions and participation in a wilderness survival course, the Safariland 6005 SLS has held up remarkably well. There are no signs of significant wear and tear; the SAFARILAMINATE construction has proven to be incredibly durable. The stitching remains intact, and the retention system continues to function flawlessly.
Maintenance is simple: a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth after each use is usually sufficient. I occasionally apply a silicone-based lubricant to the SLS mechanism to ensure smooth operation. Compared to some of the cheaper nylon holsters I’ve used in the past, the Safariland 6005 SLS is in a different league in terms of durability and reliability.
It has not only met but exceeded my expectations. It’s a professional-grade piece of equipment that inspires confidence.
