Let’s Dive into Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Foliage Green, Right Hand 6005-219-541
The Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Foliage Green, Right Hand 6005-219-541 isn’t just another piece of gear; it’s a statement. It whispers of preparedness, shouts of durability, and ensures accessibility when seconds count. Made by Safariland, a trusted name in law enforcement and military circles, this holster boasts the renowned SLS (Self Locking System) and a rugged leg harness for unparalleled security and comfort.
After a decade spent teaching tactical firearms and working security details, I needed a reliable and secure holster that wouldn’t shift or fail under stress. I’d been using a traditional belt holster, but its limited adjustability and tendency to dig into my hip during prolonged wear prompted the search for a better solution. The Safariland 6005 seemed to answer all my concerns, with its promise of improved weapon retention and comfortable leg carry.
Upon unboxing, the Safariland 6005 immediately impressed me. The STX Foliage Green finish offers excellent camouflage in many environments, and the overall construction felt incredibly robust. The molded SAFARILAMINATE material exuded quality, and the quick-release buckles on the leg harness appeared heavy-duty and reliable.
I considered a Blackhawk! Serpa holster and a Galco Miami Classic shoulder holster before settling on the Safariland 6005. While the Serpa offered a faster draw, I was concerned about its potential for accidental discharges under stress. The Galco, while comfortable, lacked the active retention system necessary for high-risk environments. The Safariland struck the perfect balance between speed, security, and comfort.
My initial impression was one of cautious excitement. I was eager to test the holster’s retention capabilities and assess its comfort during extended periods of wear. The color was perfect for my area of operations and my Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm/.40 fit perfectly.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Foliage Green, Right Hand 6005-219-541 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first real-world test of the Safariland 6005 was at a three-day tactical training course held at a local shooting range. The course involved extensive movement, simulated combat scenarios, and rapid weapon deployment. The holster was subjected to the rigors of running, crawling, and engaging targets from various positions.
The Safariland 6005 performed flawlessly in the dry, dusty conditions. The SLS rotating hood system proved to be intuitive and reliable, allowing for a smooth and secure draw stroke every time. More importantly, the holster kept my weapon secure, no matter how active I was.
The initial learning curve was minimal. After a few practice draws, the SLS system became second nature, and I was able to draw and re-holster my weapon quickly and efficiently. The only minor issue I encountered was adjusting the leg straps for a snug but comfortable fit.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Safariland 6005 continues to perform exceptionally well. It has seen action during multiple training exercises, security details, and even a few backcountry hiking trips. The SAFARILAMINATE construction has proven to be incredibly durable, showing no signs of wear or tear.
Cleaning the Safariland 6005 is a breeze. A quick wipe-down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove dirt and grime. Periodically, I’ll use a silicone-based lubricant to keep the SLS mechanism operating smoothly.
Having used various holsters over the years, including nylon tactical holsters and Kydex models, I can confidently say that the Safariland 6005 surpasses them all in terms of security, durability, and comfort. It’s more secure and comfortable than my old Blackhawk! and much more durable than any nylon option I’ve tried.
