My journey to finding the perfect tactical holster has been long, marked by discomfort and compromised security with previous models. I needed a holster that could withstand rigorous use, offered exceptional retention, and allowed for rapid deployment of my firearm. After years of settling for less, the Safariland 6005 SLS promised to be the solution I’d been searching for.
Unboxing the Safariland 6005 SLS was an immediate indicator of its quality. Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX FDE Brown, Right Hand 6005-39-551 to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Safariland 6005 SLS at a local shooting range, incorporating drills that mimicked real-world scenarios. I wanted to assess its draw speed, retention security during movement, and overall comfort during extended use. The weather was slightly damp, providing a mild test of the holster’s grip and release mechanisms under less-than-ideal conditions.
The SLS system immediately proved its worth. It required a deliberate motion to disengage the hood, making weapon takeaways incredibly difficult, yet the draw itself was surprisingly fluid and fast with practice. There was a slight learning curve to mastering the SLS motion, but after a few hours, it became second nature.
No major issues arose during the first use, though I did notice some initial stiffness in the leg straps, which required adjustment for optimal comfort. The Safariland 6005 SLS provided a secure and reliable platform. This was a noticeable upgrade from my previous holsters.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, including regular range sessions and participation in tactical training exercises, the Safariland 6005 SLS continues to perform exceptionally well. The STX FDE Brown finish has held up remarkably, showing only minor scuffs and scratches from the field. The holster remains secure and reliable.
Despite consistent wear, there are no signs of significant wear and tear on the holster or the leg harness. The straps remain secure, and the SLS mechanism continues to operate smoothly. The Safariland 6005 SLS requires minimal maintenance.
Cleaning simply involves wiping down the holster with a damp cloth and occasionally lubricating the SLS mechanism with a silicone-based product. Compared to my previous holsters, the Safariland 6005 SLS has exceeded my expectations in terms of durability, reliability, and overall performance. It’s an investment that has paid off in spades.
