The Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX FDE Brown, Right Hand 6005-173-551 is more than just a holster; it’s a complete tactical solution designed for professionals who demand speed, security, and reliability. From the renowned Safariland brand, this holster combines the proven SLS (Self Locking System) with a robust quick-release leg harness, all wrapped in a durable STX FDE Brown finish.
My journey to this holster began with a need for enhanced weapon retention in dynamic training environments. I’ve spent years running drills that simulate real-world scenarios, and a secure, accessible, and comfortable holster is non-negotiable. The Safariland 6005 promised exactly that, and I was eager to see if it lived up to the hype.
The unboxing experience was straightforward, but the quality was immediately evident. The STX FDE Brown finish looked professional and the materials felt tough and ready for abuse. Its weight was substantial but reassuring, suggesting a robust build without being cumbersome.
Compared to other leg holsters I’ve used (primarily from Blackhawk and Uncle Mike’s), the Safariland 6005 stood out due to its superior retention system and overall construction. While others relied on simple friction or thumb breaks, the SLS offered a multi-layered approach to security. I chose the Safariland based on its reputation for durability and proven track record in law enforcement and military applications.
My initial impression was excitement tempered with a healthy dose of skepticism. I’ve seen plenty of gear promise the world, but the Safariland 6005 had the pedigree and features to potentially deliver. I was eager to put it through its paces and see if it could withstand the rigors of intense training.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6005 SLS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX FDE Brown, Right Hand 6005-173-551 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first use of the Safariland 6005 was at a local shooting range, specifically during a dynamic movement and target acquisition drill. The range environment was relatively controlled, but the pace of the drill demanded quick draws and secure re-holstering.
The holster performed admirably in these conditions. The SLS system took a few repetitions to master, but once I got the hang of it, draws were smooth and consistent. The leg harness distributed the weight of my Beretta 92FS BrigadierD comfortably, even during rapid movements.
There were no immediate issues, though the initial draw stroke felt a bit stiff. However, after applying some silicone-based lubricant to the SLS mechanism, this issue disappeared. I was impressed by the holster’s stability and how securely it held the weapon, even while running and kneeling.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Safariland 6005 has proven to be exceptionally durable. I’ve used it extensively in various training scenarios, from force-on-force simulations in urban environments to outdoor exercises in dusty and muddy conditions.
The STX FDE Brown finish has shown some minor wear marks, but the SAFARILAMINATE construction remains structurally sound. All straps and buckles are holding up well, and the SLS system continues to function reliably. I’ve found that occasional cleaning with a damp cloth and application of lubricant keeps the holster in top condition.
Compared to my previous holsters, the Safariland 6005 is in a different league. It offers superior retention, comfort, and durability. It has significantly outperformed my expectations and has become an indispensable part of my tactical gear.
