The Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – Tactical Black, Right Hand 6004-5612-121 is more than just a holster; it’s a statement. Manufactured by Safariland, a name synonymous with duty gear excellence, this holster combines robust construction with the innovative Self Locking System (SLS) for unparalleled weapon security and a smooth, efficient draw. This particular model, designed for right-handed users and finished in tactical black, is tailored for Springfield Armory 1911-A1 pistols equipped with ITI M3X/M6X lights, making it a specialized piece of kit for serious users.
My journey to acquiring this holster started with a growing need for a more secure and accessible carry system for my 1911. Standard belt holsters were proving insufficient for dynamic training scenarios. I needed something that could withstand rigorous movement and provide quick access without compromising weapon retention.
The unboxing experience was exactly what I expected from Safariland: business-like and no-nonsense. The holster felt incredibly solid in my hands. The SAFARI-LAMINATE material exuded durability, and the overall build quality was immediately apparent.
I considered the Blackhawk! Serpa Level 3 Tactical Holster and the Blade-Tech WRS Level II Duty Holster, both reputable options. However, the Safariland’s SLS system and its proven track record in law enforcement and military applications ultimately swayed my decision. I was seeking something with a proven track record of reliability.
My first impression was one of relief. This wasn’t just another piece of gear; it was a serious tool designed for serious use. The Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – Tactical Black, Right Hand 6004-5612-121 felt like a significant upgrade to my carry setup.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – Tactical Black, Right Hand 6004-5612-121 to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing took place at a local shooting range during a force-on-force training exercise. The environment was controlled but simulated real-world scenarios. I was immediately impressed by the smooth draw afforded by the SLS system, even under stress.
The holster performed flawlessly in various positions, including drawing from seated, kneeling, and prone positions. The draw was consistent and positive. There were no malfunctions despite the less-than-ideal dusty environment.
There was a slight learning curve with the SLS hood release. It took a few repetitions to build muscle memory. After about an hour of practice, however, the draw became instinctive.
After the first training session, I noticed some minor scuffing on the SAFARI-LAMINATE finish. This was purely cosmetic, but it highlighted the importance of regular cleaning and maintenance. It was a reminder that this holster, while durable, wasn’t indestructible.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – Tactical Black, Right Hand 6004-5612-121 has proven to be a reliable and essential piece of my tactical gear. It has endured numerous training sessions, including simulated urban patrols and low-light drills. The holster’s retention and draw speed have remained consistent over time.
The SAFARI-LAMINATE material has held up remarkably well, exhibiting only minor wear and tear despite exposure to rain, mud, and other environmental factors. The leg straps have maintained their elasticity and haven’t shown any signs of fraying. The overall durability of the holster has exceeded my expectations.
Cleaning and maintaining the holster is straightforward. Regular wiping with a damp cloth is usually sufficient. I occasionally apply a silicone-based lubricant to the SLS mechanism to ensure smooth operation.
Compared to my previous holster experiences, the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – Tactical Black, Right Hand 6004-5612-121 is a significant improvement in terms of security, accessibility, and overall durability. It instills confidence knowing that my weapon is securely retained yet readily available when needed. It outperforms anything else I’ve used.
