Let’s Dive into Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Right Hand 6004-93-541
The Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Right Hand 6004-93-541 is more than just a holster; it’s a trusted companion for professionals and serious firearm enthusiasts. Manufactured by Safariland, this holster is designed for duty use, offering a blend of security, speed, and ruggedness. Its Self Locking System (SLS) rotating hood and durable SAFARILAMINATE construction promise both weapon retention and protection.
My search for the ultimate tactical holster began after a less-than-ideal experience with a cheaper, generic model. It lacked the retention necessary for dynamic training scenarios and didn’t offer the peace of mind needed in high-stress situations. The Safariland 6004 SLS promised a superior level of security and performance, so I decided to give it a try.
Unboxing the Safariland 6004 SLS, I was immediately impressed by the robust construction and attention to detail. The STX Foliage Green finish looked sharp and professional, while the overall weight felt substantial without being cumbersome. This suggested a level of quality far beyond my previous experience.
Compared to Blackhawk’s Serpa and some of the molded Kydex options, the Safariland 6004 SLS felt like a different breed entirely. The Blackhawk, while popular, lacked the refined security of the SLS system. Kydex, although lightweight, didn’t offer the same level of weapon protection.
My first impression of the Safariland 6004 SLS was excitement. This holster felt like a serious piece of kit, designed to withstand the rigors of duty and provide unwavering performance.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Right Hand 6004-93-541 to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground for the Safariland 6004 SLS was at a dynamic shooting range focusing on tactical scenarios. This involved movement, transitions, and rapid target acquisition, all demanding a secure and reliable holster. The holster was tested with my H&K USP .45, one of the models the 6004-93-541 is specifically designed to fit.
The Safariland 6004 SLS performed admirably in wet and dusty conditions encountered that day. The SLS system provided a secure hold even when my hands were slick with moisture, and the holster’s construction prevented dust from interfering with the draw. I initially found myself fumbling slightly with the SLS hood release, but after a few repetitions, the motion became smooth and instinctive.
There were no major issues, but I did note that the initial adjustment of the leg straps took some time to get right. Once properly adjusted, however, the holster remained comfortable and stable throughout the training session.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, including weekly range sessions and occasional force-on-force training, the Safariland 6004 SLS has held up remarkably well. There are no signs of significant wear and tear, and the SLS system continues to function flawlessly. The STX finish shows only minor scuff marks, attesting to its durability.
Maintenance has been straightforward, primarily involving wiping down the holster with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Occasionally, I apply a small amount of silicone lubricant to the SLS hood mechanism to ensure smooth operation. This holster far outperforms the cheaper models I’ve used in the past, providing a level of security and reliability that simply can’t be matched.
