This holster features Safariland’s renowned SLS (Self Locking System), providing a smooth, single-motion draw while ensuring unparalleled weapon retention. The STX Foliage Green finish offers excellent camouflage in a variety of environments, making it a popular choice for law enforcement and military personnel.
As a seasoned tactical gear specialist, I’ve always prioritized secure and reliable weapon carry. My existing holster, while functional, lacked the level of retention and rapid deployment I needed for dynamic training scenarios. I was specifically searching for a holster that offered both enhanced security against weapon takeaways and a swift, intuitive draw stroke, so I decided to give this Safariland product a try.
Upon unboxing, the first thing that struck me was the robust construction and the quality of the SAFARILAMINATE material. The holster felt solid and well-built, with no flimsy parts or questionable stitching. The STX Foliage Green finish was evenly applied and provided a low-profile, non-reflective surface.
Compared to my older Blackhawk Serpa and a kydex holster from a custom shop, the Safariland 6004 felt noticeably more substantial and secure. I chose this particular model due to Safariland’s reputation for durability and the proven effectiveness of the SLS retention system; I was particularly drawn to how it mitigates common failure points in the field. My initial impression was one of excitement and anticipation; this holster seemed like a significant upgrade in terms of both security and performance.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Right Hand 6004-14921-541 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first field test involved a full day at the shooting range, focusing on rapid draw drills and dynamic movement exercises. The Safariland 6004 SLS performed exceptionally well, providing a smooth, consistent draw stroke with minimal effort. Even while moving and shooting from unconventional positions, the holster maintained secure retention, giving me confidence in its reliability.
I also had the opportunity to test the holster in light rain and dusty conditions, simulating real-world operational environments. The SAFARILAMINATE material proved to be highly resistant to moisture and abrasion. The SLS system continued to function flawlessly even when slightly wet or covered in dust. A very important factor in unpredictable climates.
There was a slight learning curve associated with the SLS system. It requires a deliberate thumb movement to disengage the hood, but after a few hours of practice, it became second nature. I was initially concerned that the leg shroud might feel bulky or uncomfortable. However, the adjustable straps allowed me to achieve a secure and comfortable fit.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Safariland 6004 SLS has proven to be an incredibly durable and reliable piece of gear. There are no signs of significant wear and tear, even after repeated exposure to harsh conditions. The holster has maintained its structural integrity and the retention system continues to function flawlessly.
Maintaining the Safariland 6004 is relatively simple. Regular cleaning with a damp cloth removes any dirt or debris, and occasional lubrication of the SLS mechanism keeps it operating smoothly. Compared to my previous holsters, the Safariland 6004 offers a superior level of security, durability, and overall performance.
