RNT Calls Double Reed Replacement Set Review

First Impressions of RNT Calls Double Reed Replacement Set

The RNT Calls Double Reed Replacement Set promises to be a simple solution for maintaining the heart of your duck call. RNT Calls is a well-respected name in the waterfowl hunting community, known for crafting high-quality calls that produce realistic sounds. For a meager $6.99, this set claims to offer everything you need to keep your RNT Alpha 2 or Macrohen5 call singing sweet melodies to unsuspecting mallards.

As a seasoned hunter, I’ve spent countless hours in the field, and a malfunctioning call can ruin an entire hunt. Replacing reeds can be fiddly, and having a dedicated set on hand is a lifesaver. I was specifically looking for a reliable replacement option for my aging Alpha 2 that had started to sound a little flat.

Upon receiving the RNT Calls Double Reed Replacement Set, the first thing I noticed was its simplicity. The package is small, containing the essentials: corks and reed sets. It’s a no-frills solution, emphasizing functionality over fancy packaging. My initial reaction was one of cautious optimism; the reeds looked like quality replacements, but the real test would be in their sound and longevity.

I haven’t directly compared this specific replacement set to others, as I’ve typically purchased individual reeds or used generic replacements in the past. I chose this set for its brand reputation and the promise of compatibility with my specific RNT call. The low price point also made it an easy decision. I was primarily excited to test the sound quality compared to the worn-out reeds in my current call.

Real-World Testing: Putting RNT Calls Double Reed Replacement Set to the Test

First Use Experience

My first opportunity to field-test the RNT Calls Double Reed Replacement Set came during an early teal season hunt in the Louisiana marsh. I quickly swapped out the old reeds in my Alpha 2 before sunrise, eager to hear the difference. Installation was straightforward; the corks fit snugly, and the reeds aligned perfectly. The sound was immediately noticeable – crisp, clear, and with a distinct, ducky tone that I had been missing.

The marsh was cool and damp that morning, a typical environment for waterfowl hunting. Despite the humidity, the reeds performed flawlessly. The call retained its responsiveness, and I was able to produce a wide range of calls, from soft feeding chuckles to aggressive comeback calls. The ducks responded well, and we had a successful morning.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of consistent use throughout the early season and the beginning of the regular duck season, the RNT Calls Double Reed Replacement Set has proven to be quite durable. There are no signs of warping or cracking in the reeds, despite frequent use in varying weather conditions. The corks remain firmly in place and haven’t needed adjustment.

Cleaning the call after each hunt is simple. I simply rinse it with water and allow it to air dry. So far, the reeds haven’t required any special maintenance. Compared to past experiences with cheaper, generic reeds, this set is a significant improvement. It consistently produces a better sound and holds up to the rigors of regular hunting.

Breaking Down the Features of RNT Calls Double Reed Replacement Set

Specifications

The RNT Calls Double Reed Replacement Set includes several key components:

• Two Corks: Designed specifically for Alpha 2 and Macrohen5 duck calls, these corks provide a secure and airtight seal for optimal call performance. Correct cork fit ensures proper reed placement and sound production.
• Three Double Reed Sets: Each set includes a top and bottom reed, precision-cut to RNT’s exacting standards. These reeds are crucial for producing the realistic and versatile duck sounds that RNT calls are known for.

These specifications matter because they directly impact the sound and reliability of your duck call. Precision-cut reeds ensure consistent tone, while the correctly sized corks guarantee proper reed alignment and airtightness. Without these, your call will sound flat, raspy, or may not work at all.

Performance & Functionality

The RNT Calls Double Reed Replacement Set significantly improves the performance of my Alpha 2 duck call. The new reeds restore the call’s original crispness and responsiveness. I can easily produce a wide range of duck sounds, from soft quacks to loud hail calls.

The reeds consistently perform well, even in wet conditions, and the call is reliable. The only minor weakness is the limited range of compatible calls. It specifically fits the Alpha 2 and Macrohen5 and won’t work with other RNT models or calls from different manufacturers. It exceeds my expectations for such an inexpensive replacement set.

Design & Ergonomics

The RNT Calls Double Reed Replacement Set is a simple, functional design. The reeds are precisely cut and easy to install, and the corks are sized perfectly for the compatible calls. The materials appear to be high-quality, contributing to the overall durability of the set.

The simplicity of the design makes it incredibly user-friendly. There is practically no learning curve. Even someone unfamiliar with replacing reeds could easily install this set with minimal effort.

Durability & Maintenance

Based on my experience, the RNT Calls Double Reed Replacement Set is durable. The reeds show no signs of significant wear and tear after weeks of regular use. Maintenance is minimal; simply rinsing the call after each use is sufficient.

The long-term durability remains to be seen, but given the initial performance and material quality, I anticipate that each reed set should last through at least one hunting season, if not longer. This is a great value.

Accessories and Customization Options

The RNT Calls Double Reed Replacement Set comes with the necessary components: corks and reed sets. There are no additional accessories included, nor are there any specific customization options for this particular product. You are buying a set of replacement parts.

The set is designed to restore your existing RNT Alpha 2 or Macrohen5 call to its original factory specifications. It’s compatible with the call itself but not with any external accessories like lanyards or silencers. The focus is purely on internal components of the call.
